Nature & Parks

The Luray Caverns, located in Virginia, are one of the most well-known and largest caverns on the East Coast of the United States. These vast underground tunnels have been forming for millions of years and showcase stunning natural wonders such as colossal stone formations, crystal clear pools, glistening draperies, and soaring stone columns. Visitors can tour the caverns and marvel at 140-ft. natural columns, colorful stalactites, and brick walkways.

This cavern is truly one of the.most spectacular natural wonders I have seen in my life. The history of how this cave was found by accident about 150 years ago is amazing. The tour of the cavern was well planned and thought out and responsibly preserved. The tour takes about an hour to walk and a very good camera is highly recommended.I suggest visiting during the off peak season so that you feel rushed through the cave. There is a small Cafe, a gift shop and a few other shops.I highly recommend this park to those who enjoy nature and for those who want to experience a once in a lifetime thrill.Pictures do not do this cave justice. It must seen in person to appreciate the beauty and amazement of this place.

I heard from someone working at the front royal visitor's center that Luray caverns was the best in the area. It was a good 45 minute drive but it definitely did not disappoint! It was beautiful!!We went on a Monday evening and it was empty. They took our photos at the entrance and ended up being really cute souvenirs. The caverns themselves were really big. We took our time and read through all 19 stops on the tour (they had self guided tours with a brochure) I liked that we were able to go at our own pace and be able to take photos/ videos without other people photo bombing. There were pretty little lakes and huge formations. Great trip!

Laura Saatsoglou — Google review

A must see! Superbly arranged, roomy for those who may suffer from claustrophobia. Nearly all paths are brick layer and the path is very easy going. There is no climbing or such. Tour is self guided and takes about an hour. Plenty of parking. There is a very nice antique car collection, which is included on the $30.00 entry fee. Highly recommended!

Peter Papagiannakis — Google review

It's no doubt a neat trip for visiting a cave but the company is letting it slide. In the past ten years, the price has gone up and the tours are no longer guided. We visited today and it was a near free-for-all in the cave. A lot of people were touching the rock formations and leaving trash in the cavern. At this rate, considering how delicate the caves are, I wouldn't be surprised if it were eventually closed off to the public.

Nicholas H — Google review

The off season is the best time to visit. Absolutely no lines, many times we were the only ones in an area. The staff was knowledgeable and very friendly. Off season lol. The caves are incredible and stunning. The fun thing is they actually have a pretty cool car selection which we all enjoyed. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Steve Thomas — Google review

Absolutely gorgeous and worth the trip from Baltimore (and the ticket price). We got permission to go backward through the caverns and it was nice because it made it less crowded. I do imagine that they’ll not allow it anymore, though, because I could tell a few of them were slightly annoyed by it. Don’t ask about it and definitely don’t reference this post.

Tyler Stewart — Google review

The most beautiful and largest cave in the East coast you must see! It would take about an hour to walk through the cave but we really enjoyed every moment of it! Although it was crowded, it’s still plenty rooms and opportunities for you to taking pictures! Great place!

Kaylie Craig — Google review

Great way to easily experience the caverns! The self-guided tour is great, it allows you to stop and enjoy the quiet and beauty of each area. There are useful details about the formations in a guide pamphlet which is super helpful to understand everything. Added on the maze to the experience, it was so fun and worth the extra price. The whole experience was a lot of fun for all ages.

Elizabeth Hadden — Google review

Visited on a Thursday afternoon and it was decently crowded. My family of 3 was able to walk through the caverns in about an hour and it was spectacular. It is self-guided but you can pay for a guided tour. You are given a pamphlet with information as you walk through the caverns. Although it is definitely a tourist-y spot, I highly recommend checking this incredible place out as it is one of the great wonders of the east coast!

Brianna Ridenour — Google review

I have visited caves all around the world- Japan, Europe, Korea etc. This was by FAR the most breathtaking experience. The caverns were other-worldly. You MUST visit if you are close by! If you have kids, the caverns are pretty stroller (small stroller) friendly. Also, the crowds here aren’t bad at all, you have plenty of space to enjoy the trail.

Eleanore B. — Google review

We enjoyed this very much. We stayed up at big meadows campground during a very misty week so this was a nice break. The path is all one level, no steps. The only improvement I would like is the ability to get the headphones again or a guided tour. The pamphlet was helpful but we like to interact with tour guides make sure you check for discounts

Deanna Lewis — Google review

It was an amazing experience. It was my first time in a cavern, so it was incredible to me. The mirror caves were absolutely beautiful. It was a rainy day, so we got to see the water filtering inside the cave. The guides were very helpful. We got to hear the organ in the cathedral.

Ana Cruz — Google review

Having heard that these were the best caverns to visit in Virginia, I was eager to see them.On arrival the place was really busy, but we had not trouble parking in the parking lot.Entry was reasonably priced and after walking through the gift shop we headed to the caverns. Before you enter you have to have your photo taken so they can try and sell it to you on your way out.The caves are amazing to look at, and there are plenty of opportunities to take photos. The caverns are well lit but I do feel that missed a trick by not using coloured lighting. My only gripe would be the crowds. Lots of people just stopping and not letting people past. This caused a back log many times.About halfway round there are only so many rock formations you can look at before they all start to look alike. The route took about 1hr. Once out you walk back through the gift shop. There are other attractions available included in the price, but we were too hot and tired to experience them.

Andy Murfet — Google review

Really cool caverns with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites formations. There was also a very small underground lake that reflected the stalactites like a mirror. The temperature is cool (light jacket should be fine), can be slightly drippy if raining outside. Takes about 1 hr average to stroll leisurely and enjoy the view. The restroom is only available at the main building so make sure you empty your bladder before heading into the cavern. There are also other attractions in the complex such as the toy station, museum, etc. Parking was relatively easy, also free. All in all, certainly worth the ticket price.

Mario Christianto — Google review

Stunning- Nature’s magic at play. Great for families, kids or even a romantic get away. Lots to do other than just the Caverns. Plan ahead if you want to explore more than just the caverns and do other things like the Garden Maze , shopping etc.Definately bring your camera. The caves have a beautiful ‘Mirror lake’. Magical!!!

Muhnoo Sophia Jain — Google review

Went at the end of our spring break and it was really fun! It’s about 60-90 min to walk all the way through, depending on how long you stop for photos or listen to the organ. Many amazing sights and some parts of the caves are 7 million years old! Very interesting history and would recommend grabbing info pamphlet before you go through so you can follow along what each item is (they’re numbered). Tickets also include free admission to the toy museum and train/car museum next door. Really neat to see more historic items.

Lydia Kennedy — Google review

This place was really great. I checked previous pictures and had thought I would find something a bit different, for example: the wishing well; I thought it was bigger than what actually is (small) also, thought there was more water in it, but nope. I still enjoyed the place and had a great time. I went on Sunday and it was full of people, making it hard to take some pics but not a big deal either. No steps inside, it took a bit more than 1hr but did not feel it, I didn’t get tired either. I was ready to use a sweater inside but no need in my case. Restrooms are 8/10. Whenever you enter or exit you have to go through the shop they have, I didn’t like it because it was crowded inside the shop. Staff was friendly. Entry was 32USD per person.

Elena N — Google review

Beautiful. Pictures can not do it justice. My girlfriend and I made a detour on our trip home from PA to NC to see this place. We were amazed. I have hundreds of pictures/videos and they all look amazing. Put it on your bucket list. Must see.

Joshua Chapman — Google review

We had the best time here. I took my father and my grandson (who is 4) and my dad loved the ramp that was added from the last time he was here many years ago and my grandson practically skipped the entire time being in awe of everything to see.We lucked out and didn't realize the anniversary of the caverns being discovered was the same weekend we chose to go and they had lit hundreds of candles which only added to the ambiance. It was also nice and cool given the 90+ it was outside.

A Natachia TNT — Google review

Amazing experience, very beautiful cave and rock formations. The tours are self guided. However when your walking through, their will be families stopping and taking pictures, which holds up others that want to go bye. My experience there was an allot of kids running around, which annoyed others. But didn’t annoy me. I had a great time. Would definitely go back.

Morii — Google review

the caverns were amazing to see, easy to walk, we were there when they first opened mid weekday in winter and it was not crowded. It took about an hour and half total with a leisurely stroll. Kids really enjoyed seeing the different formations. There is a very large parking lot and was mostly empty when we went. By the time we got done the lot was about1/4 full.

James Hawthorne — Google review

Absolutely beautiful!! We really enjoyed the self guided tour. It's definitely worth the trip!! We visited from Michigan over New Years weekend. It wasn't terribly busy. We spent a few hours there between the caves, village, and museums. The ticket price is worth it for sure. You get to see and learn a lot. Our only issue was with people themselves. For some reason, people just can't seem to listen and follow rules, especially in the caves. It was sad to see so many people being disrespectful and touching the formations :(

Ashley Borgert — Google review

I was here in 2019 and now in 2024. I'm very excited. This is the best place. It’s safe to walk here and not be afraid that you will slip and fall, like in another cave that we were not far from this one. There is a very large cave here and there is something to see all the time. I regretted that we went to another cave because this cave is the best, the most beautiful, the most. I really liked it, thank you to the people who work there for your work. It's so good here that you don't want to leave. Photos can't convey how beautiful it is there.

Marina Komarova — Google review

Cool place to walk around if you enjoy caves. Did have an experience with one of the workers as we walked up on a private tour and we weren’t aware of it and just stood there being polite letting him finish talking only for him to rudely say anyone not part of the tour move along. I just think there was a better way to say it as we had no clue that’s what it was.

Victoria — Google review

Decided to head out to the caverns with the family. We have been to several caverns all over the world and this one was really good. The tour was good, the path was wheelchair friendly, the formations were amazing. The cavern organ performances were a bit of a let down. The car museum was okay but it was included in the price of the ticket. The biggest shock was the price at $34 a person. This is quite expensive. The cavern tour took us about 2 hours. There was plenty of parking.

Johnathon Edwards — Google review

What an experience! This place is truly out of this world. The tickets included the Luray Caverns Self-Guided Tour, the Car & Carriage Caravan Museum, Shenandoah Heritage Village, and Toy Town Junction. There's also garden maze, rope adventure park and gem sluice for additional price.I wish we had more time to explore, so we hope to be back soon.

Lyudmila Kennedy — Google review

It's a very nice vacation destination to see the beauty of another side of the world. Luray caverns is very good experience, and nice to see the under earth beauty. The mirror image beauty is awesome. Nice maintenance inside caverns. Enjoyed the trip and Skyline drive as well.

Manikandan Narayanan — Google review

It was my revisit after 28 years. Back then it was not as nice as now. Cavern was renovated during 2017 ~ 2019 and it looks much nicer and corridor was nicely renovated. My kids loved the cavern and it is must visit place when you have kids. It takes little less than 1 and half hours to complete the tour and loved it. Ticket price is $34 for adult and $17 for kids(6-12), Free for under age 6

The Car and Carriage Caravan Museum features antique and vintage cars, including an 1892 Mercedes-Benz and a 1908 Baker Electric. It is a great thing to do alongside visiting the Luray Caverns!.

We really enjoyed going through this museum (we are our late 20s). I took several pictures to show my grandpa - he really loves older cars! It was terrific that this was included with our tickets to Luray Caverns - and I would consider this a don't miss attraction if you're already visiting them. They had a wide variety of cars over several decades. Go take a look!

Holly Bouldin-Scarlett — Google review

Small car museum but lots crammed into it all. Amazing cars, it had some of the rarest and important vehicles in vehicle history. Some of Roosevelt’s vehicles. There were several cars worth a few million dollars each. Amazing collection.

Deb Clif — Google review

Unexpected little gem of old vehicles museum included in Luray Caves ticket.Small space filled with cars - likely would be better in larger space allowing to examine cars from multiple directions.Still, great selection in fantastic condition.

Sam Aberman — Google review

I loved the experience inside the place. The cars are arranged chronologically. There is a float and even an RR. The cars are in excellent condition. It is worth visiting and seeing each of the cars in detail. The place is small but has what you need. They even have mannequins dressed in period clothing. They have a wide variety of cars.

José Crespo — Google review

You will love this place if you are a vintage car fan. It has a great collection of cars from the early 1900s. You may not see some of the cars anywhere in the world. You will get free access to it if you buy the ticket for the Luray Caverns.

Shah Md Mayen Uddin Chistee — Google review

This is such a cool historic car museum! I'm not at all a car guy but really enjoyed looking at all of these older cars! Lots of cool designs and crazy to see how we have advanced over the years.

Michael Encinosa — Google review

An amazing collection of vintage cars maintained in pristine condition. They have one of the oldest commercially produced Mercedes Benz, lots of carriages, Ford, Chevy etc… They have a couple of cars brands that I never heard of.This place is a car enthusiast’s dream. The only drawback is that some of the lights are not well positioned and the place is super crammed.

Viswanathan Raghu — Google review

This is a nice little museum. It’s included with cost of admission to the caverns on the same property. It’s probably a little bit too small as a stand alone attraction, but it’s worth the time to pass through and look around at these old rides while you’re there. One unique thing I liked was the old shop stuff, like the tire vulcanizer, the coil tester, and vintage gas pump. It would be cool if there were more and/or a tour guide(perhaps recorded on a device so you could listen with ear buds). The old kid stuff was interesting. They have a souvenir/gift shop here too.

K Lap — Google review

Loved strolling through the museum. The pass to the Caverns covers entry to the museum and a few other nearby attractions. Lots of vintage automobiles on display. Well maintained.

Varun Kudchadker — Google review

Approximately 30 very old cars from the first few decades of automobile mass production. Some big name manufacturers you would recognize, and others you won't. Very good condition vehicles and useful information posted.

M Z — Google review

This Museum is for Car lovers only!!! A very good collection of old, vintage and amazing cars of reputed brands showcased at this place. Ford, Rolls Royce, Chervolet, Buik, Stanley, Baker brand cars from the 18th and 19th centuries displayed in the museum. It's a very rare collection of cars. Don't worry about the ticket as it's included in the Luray Caverns Ticket. You can spend half an hour in the museum.

Amol More — Google review

A big collection of vintage cars to attract the car lovers. All the 1900 century cars and how the technology advanced from there to now-a-days are well presented in the packed museum. Bonus is free admission with the Luray cavern ticket and you don’t have to pay additional fees.

Nishan Biswas — Google review

The Luray Valley Car and Carriage Museum is an absolute gem 💎, I would call it a car lovers paradise. While the museum is only small, it does make up with some very special exhibits that I have not seen before. The cars are in great condition and well looked after. If you are visiting the Luray Caverns and not taking the time to visit the car museum, you are letting the best in life go by.

Tramp on tour — Google review

The car museum was an unexpected delight. Even for those not particularly inclined towards cars, the collection was impressive. From vintage classics to modern marvels, the museum showcased a diverse array of automobiles. The attention to detail and the historical context provided for each vehicle spoke volumes about the dedication and care put into curating this exhibit. In summary, Luray Caverns offers a dual delight - a journey through nature's time-honored masterpiece and a captivating tour of automotive history.

Wow! Nice to see all vintage cars from initial Era and horse pulling vehicles as well. Lots of collection. Getting entry with Luray caverns tickets.

We had a pleasant time here, although we started in the patio, but had to move inside as the temp dropped. Tried a few wine flights amongst the six of us and settled on our favorites. Staff was wonderful and the service was very good. Nice place to hang out and sample some wines.

John Thompson — Google review

Our server was excellent and made our visit very enjoyable. Everything was delicious. A wonderful experience, beautiful location, and great place to celebrate a birthday. Our only regret was that the kitchen closed an hour after our 3:00 reservation time and we were limited to two hours prior to a private event. We were only made aware of this the day prior. We would love to come back on a nice day to sit in the outdoor area.

Bill B. — Google review

Absolutely gorgeous grounds and Tasting Room. The atmosphere is top tier with ambient big band and jazz music. We tried two flights; one red and one white. I wish the wines were enough of a reason to return. Wines were uninspiring, without much desirable flavor, and mostly tasted like alcohol. I certainly wouldn’t purchase any of the eight we sampled for consumption at a later date. Our meal options were a part of a special event. We sent one dish back as the flavor profiles were inedible. The dish had a strong, malodorous, unappetizing odor that was off-putting to other members of our party. The tenderloin was delicious.

Absolutely beautiful Vineyard located in the hills outside of Charlottesville. Perfect day trip from VA Beach. Out of all the vineyards in the area we picked this one because they have a full kitchen and turn out some very delicious food. The property is absolutely gorgeous, it's feels like you jumped into a painting. We went in on a Friday and they were moderately busy so I recommend reservations. They also have an absolutely beautiful out back area with a separate "Meadows" menu. They have so many different wines it was hard to choose a flight. All of the ones we tried were delicious, every single one. The charcuterie and fried polenta also went perfectly with all of our wine. There are also several B&Bs' in the area if you want to make a long weekend out of your trip.

This place was beautiful and the food/wine was exquisite! If you have the opportunity to sit outside with good weather, please do so! The views are stunning and I can’t wait to come back for their zucchini cake dessert!!!!

Early Mountain Vineyards for brunch was an excellent choice! We order a red wine flight, even though they do not offer as part of the menu, the manager accommodated our request. The brunch was excellent too.One suggestion, if you have kids, it might be difficult in terms of food. The menu is very limited and do not have kids friendly options. We also ask, and were told only menu items. I still rate 5 star vineyard!

Sharing from a wedding photographer's point of view; this place is incredible! They offer a great variety of locations - having their own "getting ready" area off site, beautiful landscapes surrounding the space, and plenty of outdoor area for co*cktail hour and reception. The team is top notch and is incredibility collaborative for the vendors on the day of. We're looking forward to our next one there as they always help make the day so much more seamless for everyone involved.

Very beautiful property. Has a lot of space for guests to walk around. We made a reservation at 1:15 and arrived on time, but didn’t get seated until 1:25 or so. The server at our table was great—friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable about their wine/food. The food itself tastes great, but the portions are very very tiny, with pretty high prices. It’s a good place for snacking, but not good value for a full meal.

We had an excellent experience at Early Mountain Vineyards. The whole place is a absolutely stunning. The wine was delicious and our waitress was amazing. We were a bit disappointed in the food selection, but what we did order was good. Between our group members we tried the wine flight, a glass of sparkling, and the Rise red . We enjoyed everything and would definitely go back in the future.

Lovely vinyard and restaurant. Love the red wines here (Foothills 2022, Eluvium 2020, 2020 Cab Franc). Had the local Bison steak. Fantastic service - extremely attentive. The Chef and Wine director have quite the resume. We will be back!

Randy Sisto — Google review

Overall we had a really good experience here. I'm not a wine drinker, but the others in my party really enjoyed the wine. We had made a reservation and were seated inside, which was beautiful, clean, and spacious. The service was pretty good, and the food we ordered was delicious. The only real complaint we had was the height of bathroom stalls. The bathrooms were perfectly fine except that the dividers for the stalls were pretty short! Any average size man can easily look over the divider and they wouldn't even have to get on their tippy toes to do it. Management, please, fix this ASAP!

Joseph Wilson — Google review

Wow! The bison ribeye was great and the wine was fantastic! The Brussels sprouts had such a great flavor as well. The rumchata cake was a great way to end the meal and left me wanting more lol. Everyone was super friendly and honestly we just wanted to sit there all day and hang out lol. Props to the Chef! This place had such lovely esthetics as well!

Had a fantastic time here for my birthday weekend, gorgeous grounds and tasting room. Would definitely recommend making reservations in advance if you are planning to sit outside. Shenandoah Caverns is a fascinating underground attraction that offers a guided tour of caverns with stunning geological and crystalline formations. There is also a souvenir shop available for visitors. While the experience may be expensive for some, it is definitely worth it as the tour guide is knowledgeable and patient, making the time pass quickly. The Main Street of Yesteryear adds an interesting touch to the attraction but does not require much time to explore.

Yes. Yes yes yes. Go here. Great store. Great cave! Yummy milkshakes we bought at the end to drink at the playground. Cute room upstairs to see the animated dolls. Kids loved it and I got a kick out of it too. American Parade building reminded me of New Orleans. Lots of beautiful floats on display from the Rose Ball Parades. All included with cave ticket. Cave is VERY impressive. Lots of calcium in the water so many deposits makes for plentiful natural cave formations. Fun guide and impressive cave.

L B — Google review

4 stars because it was a little expensive for 4 people, but otherwise it's great and my 11 and 13 year old loved it! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and patient, and the tour passed quickly. The Main Street of Yesteryear was interesting, but doesn't take much time.A few helpful things to know:1. The cavern tour is a little over 1 mile long and there's nowhere to sit. Make sure you can stand/walk for at least an hour.2. Some parts are somewhat steep to go up/down.3. If you're taller than 4'5" you will have to duck through some short passages.4. The caverns are humid, so even though it's a steady 50 - 55 degrees, by the end you'll be a little warm. Dress in some light layers.

Absolutely stunning! Great experience. We went with our 2 year old and 6 month old, they were all very inviting, friendly and just all around great. We also got food there and it was so tasty! Very fresh and the on tap co*ke was amazing!

Beautiful area to visit. Had the 5pm tour on Sunday with a young girl as the tour guide. She did a great job. Also parked our RV there for the night as they are part of the Harvest Host program.

TheDonFather Videos — Google review

Beautiful caverns, friendly guide though not as knowledgeable as those in other caverns. Some areas were quite dramatic. I did not particularly care for the fake colored lights. There was an interesting area outside the caverns that was worth a few minutes to see. It cost 80$ for 2 seniors and 2 kids under 10.

Sharon Burner — Google review

Great spot to take the family. Kids (9&6) loved it. It does take about an hour to go through the entire thing. Upstairs is a little creepy and macabre but in a good way if you're into that kind of thing. Tours start at the top of the hour so if you get there right after you're going to have to wait.

Matt — Google review

Amazing experience to go into the Caves... It make you think about the things you cannot see on the surface but exist. All the staff was great... Our tour guide Cadence was also amazing! Don't leave the Shenandoah Caves without trying the co*ke Cola with the original 1957 recipe and the awesome milkshakes in the dinner. Recommended 100%!!

Totally awesome show cavern! Shenandoah Caverns has a really well done guided tour. The cavern has many unique formations to see including the Capitol Dome, the Bishop, Diamond Cascade, and Rainbow Lake. Their "Breakfast Bacon" formations appeared in a National Geographic magazine. Not to be overlooked is the balanced boulder, which looks like it could fall any minute but hasn't moved in millions of years. There is definitely a lot to see here! The tour itself lasted about and hour and half, was well paced, and allowed time to photograph and take in the beauty of the cavern. Tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Walking was fairly easy, much of the path was flat.Be sure to take in the animatronic displays before you go on your tour. It's a fun exhibit with depictions of many different fairy tales. Gift shop offered much merchandise with fair prices. Really small post office on the premises.Definitely a must see cavern! Also, easy to get to right off I-81.

Another cavern you don’t want to missed visiting the Shenandoah area not too crowded and there is a tour guide who will walk you all to the fascinating view. Best part when she turn off the lights to simulate how dark it is inside the cavern. This has elevator option. This place not too crowded and it is time schedule with tour guide, total time can be 45 mins to walk around. They turn off lights when done to protect so no algae will bloom. Again this is a highly recommended to be added in the bucket list visiting the area.

What an amazing place! We stopped here on a road trip and it was the perfect pit stop. The tour took about a hour and our guide Cadence was amazing! We really enjoyed checking out Main St of Yesteryear too. Very unique. I did film a video on YouTube featuring a full tour and review! From the lady at the front desk to our tour guide, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The cavern was amazing and beautiful! Our guide answered many questions and was extremely helpful. This is definitely worth visiting. There is also a gift shop. Main Street of Yesteryear is in the upstairs of the building that has old storefront displays - fascinating! Easy to get to, not far from highway, handicap parking and entry into building, and an elevator into the cavern.

Kathy Root — Google review

The design of this tour is beautiful. They did a good job with the lighting and pathway so you really get a more intimate feel of the caverns. Although Luray caverns is bigger, this experience felt much more personal. They also have a really nice display of storefront animations and cute decor and playground. We really enjoyed our visit.

My family had a wonderful time here, we got there a little before the tour started and waiting while looking in the giftshop and upstairs area. The tour was educational and Brandon, our guide was very funny and engaging. Definitely recommend.

Loved this caverns! So beautiful and a great tour guide! There's a gift shop and a little Cafe. Upstairs there's a display of antique store window displays. On the property, in another building, there's a museum of the most awesome parade floats from presidential inaugurations, Macy's Thanksgiving and others.

We visited in August 2023. Lots to see for a great price. I loved the guided tour. Our guide Cadence was very knowledgeable and funny. The steps into the cavern are long and steep. If you can't do steps, they do have an elevator, think only canvern that has one.

This place was amazing!I met Joe the manager while out working and he suggested my crew and I check it out, we had a great time. Everything was so beautiful, so many great photo opportunities and the staff there is fantastic! Tracey at the front desk was very knowledgeable and super helpful, she even recommended a place to eat for lunch, and cadence our tour guide was super nice, and gave an amazing tour, I loved all her corny jokes she made while down in the caverns. I was hoping to see Joe again to thank him, so Joe if you read this thank you so much for the great time, we're definitely coming back in the summer to check out the parade museum!(We're the utility pole inspectors)

We stopped here on a road trip and were pleasantly surprised. We have been to multiple caverns and this one is by far the best! The tour was great and it included an area with giant animals and gorgeous storybook window displays. My child loved it and so did I! I highly recommend going here if you are ever in yhe area.

I was road tripping and was driving down the highway and found a highway sign this. I decided I needed a break and went. The ladies at the counter were very fun and friendly. Explained the whole process and it went smoothly. We got there at the bottom of the hour unfortunately and had to wait. I really liked how much fun the side room was with the float pieces. The tour was really fun. I'm 6ft so some places were tight but overall I really enjoyed it. The tour guide was a lot of fun. Everything was beautiful and Id check it out again.

If you are going with a group, buy your tickets in advance. If not, depending on the timer of year, maybe call in advance and check. We went at around 3:30 and got the last tour of the day, the last tour was at 4 so we got to spend a lot of time with our guide. Normally the tour is only 45 minutes to an hour.... We lucked out. Excellent guide, very informative, even our guys who weren't really interested in going really enjoyed it and were happy that we stopped. I'd say it's a once in a lifetime thing, but I was here as a child about 45 years ago and have been wanting to come again for years.... Finally made it. Yay 😊 Thanks for making my childhood dreams a reality again. ❤️

Loved this caverns! A lot of beautiful formations like flowstone and a lot of active new growth! Cadence was our tour guide and was very funny and kind! I loved the gift shop too and unique parade exhibits as well!

Very cozy and inviting. Country home setting before the tour is sweet. All caverns are pricy, so look for a Groupon deal. Informative guide, no individual touring. Great and reasonable lunch after walking.

Grateful for the fellow travelers encountered along the journey—each one contributing their own essence to our experience as we ventured to ascend mountains and conquer stone formations. 🪨 Upon reaching the summit, uncertainty lingered on how to descend, a momentary pang of regret creeping in. Yet, the vistas from above left no room for remorse; it felt as though we had reached the pinnacle of this mountain's magnificence.

GSTonyTseng — Google review

My teenagers loved this hike! It is relatively short with absolutely amazing views at the top as long as you do not have a fear of heights. The rock scramble made the hike.

Amanda Sapp — Google review

Absolutely amazing views from Bearfence Mountain! Not the easiest climb, but we’ll worth the effort. There is a slightly easier trail if you don’t want to do the entire loop. The only downside with this trail is the super narrow trail most of the way up. Some hikers were very considerate, as I would expect from hikers, but there were so many people that just wanted to push past going in the same direction or opposite direction. Super frustrating!Well worth the trip! Highly recommend!!!

Joshua Ray Ogletree — Google review

The hike to Bearfence Mountain is one of my favorite hikes in Shenandoah! It's not very long, has some great scrambling to get to the top and then great 360° views at the top!!!

Matt Colson — Google review

This is a great hike with amazing views. The trail is only one mile total and can be completed in under an hour (not including breaks and time for taking pictures). As a word of warning, half of the loop involves rock scrambling and you should be prepared as well as physically fit enough to do it. For those who cannot, they can go up the way most people come down since it is a loop. I would also recommend that you go up the scrambling part first (go straight at the Appalachian trail junction) because you don’t want to have to scramble down. Also most of the great views are in the scrambling portion of the trail so if you take the alternate route up, you won’t see the views but you’ll see some nice rock formations.

C K — Google review

We hiked on Thursday morning and there were not very many other people on the trail. The view is amazing. It's a quick hike from the parking lot, but steep. Follow me @trailenvy for more!

trailenvy — Google review

There are two views on this trail. One's a 360 view and then the next one is a 180 view. This is also a rock scramble so bring hiking boots, watch for snakes, and just be careful. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the view. I have seen it Spring, Summer, and Winter. I have posted each one of the views. The best time is when it is cooler as the haze from the heat prevents you from seeing the Shenandoah Valley all the way past Harrisonburg, VA. The scramble can be tricky so know your limits and take your time. The trail is marked by blue blazes. If you need a map for this trail, ask the rangers, at the entrance of the park where you pay, for a Bearfence trail map. They'll be gladly to offer you one free of charge and it will help you figure out a generalized direction on the trail. The parking lot is on the right if you are heading southbound on Skyline Drive near mile marker 57. Cross the road and you'll be going up hill for a bit until you reach an intersection which is the AT(Appalachian Trail). Continue straight and you'll soon begin your scramble. Have fun and enjoy the view!

Ben Hatton — Google review

This trial was so much fun! If you like rock scrambling, and an insanely beautiful 360 view this is the one for you! Pictures can't do the experience any justice.

Mallory Barr — Google review

My favorite trail. Parking lot is across the road from the trailhead. You'll see many deer on this trail. The rock scramble is fun. Amazing, perfect views at the top.

Adam — Google review

This hike has 2 route options. One is moderate the other strenuous. You have the option to go up and down the moderate path but this will cause you to miss a 360 viewpoint.I went up the strenuous path, which requires some climbing. It is only about a mile loop. Beautiful 360 view about .2 miles into the rock climb. That said we saw children beasting this trail (maybe 7yo) as well as a cautious 60+ and 5yo (with parent aid). Somehow we missed the second viewpoint. So look out for signs. This would be difficult in the dark. So if seeking sunrise/sunset come prepared with lights.

Water park

Water & Amusem*nt Parks

Energetic aquatic park featuring indoor & seasonal outdoor waterslides & pools, plus an arcade.

We all had a ball plan to revisit again... Loads of things to do for every age group. Life guards every where. Plenty places to sit. Great food.

Lisha Faith — Google review

Always a great getaway for the kids. The water park is amazing BUT not enough concession options when we were there. The line to the snack bar was literally an hour and half. Very sad. Other than that, all was okay.

GoodConsuma I. — Google review

This place is fun not just for the kids, but adults as well. I have come here a few times over the past 10 years. They are always adding new attractions or making updates to the park. I suggest getting your moneys worth. Get there when they open and leave about 20 minutes before they close. There are both indoor and outdoor attractions. Slides, tubes, lazy river, pool basketball, hot tubs and more. There are a few attractions for smaller kids but not that many. If you don’t like water, you can rent a cabana outside for the day and relax. There is a snack bar that serves alcohol as well. They are a little pricey so I would suggest bringing some drinks and sandwiches or snacks. Wheelchair and handicap accessible. Small gift shop on the top floor. Overall a great experience and definitely worth the price of admission. Make sure to check times before arriving. Different open and close times most days. Can’t wait to come back!

Andrew Izzo — Google review

First and foremost, although I typically refrain from composing reviews, my recent experience compels me to share my sentiments. Upon arrival, I was promptly informed that the park had reached full capacity. Accompanying me were six individuals, four of whom possessed tickets acquired through a timeshare presentation incentive. While I acknowledge the unconventional method of obtaining four tickets, priced at a steep $70 per person, the situation is nonetheless disheartening. It raises questions regarding the park's policies: if they had indeed sold out, the issuance of tickets to those without prior reservations should have been preempted. Consequently, one would expect the option to procure additional tickets for the remaining members of my party, if not at least one or two. Regrettably, this was not the case.Furthermore, it came as a disappointment that towels were not provided by the park. This lack of amenities necessitates visitors to bring their own. Moreover, despite being aware that only the indoor water park was operational, the absence of the main attraction, the meltdown tower of water, compounded our dissatisfaction. Such an omission denies children the opportunity to experience a significant highlight of the park. Notably, my children, upon reflecting on our past experiences, expressed a preference for establishments such as Westgate Town Center in Florida or even Great Wolf Lodge.Additionally, the absence of a dedicated swimming pool for children, coupled with a limited operating time from 3 pm to 7 pm, leaves much to be desired. The recent opening of a section at 3:50 pm only serves to underscore the lack of foresight in managing the park's resources efficiently. While there is an inclination to delve further into the myriad inconveniences experienced during our stay, including the absence of towels, malfunctioning dryers, and the unwelcome presence of big black ants in the cabinets, such matters warrant a separate review dedicated to the resort itself. In summation, the overarching sentiment is one of dissatisfaction. The anticipation for a memorable experience was met with disappointment, exacerbated by the myriad shortcomings encountered throughout our visit. As of April 3, 2024, at 3:53 pm, it is regrettable to acknowledge that our expectations were not met, and the experience fell short of what was anticipated.

Very fun water park! Did not get pictures of the arcade but they have recently expanded it, while adding a larger prize booth. The rides were absent of any long lines despite going on a Saturday. The staff are friendly and attentive. Rides for people of all ages, our favorite was the 3 person tube slides that are really fast. The wave machine was really unique. $53 a person was a little high for me, since you can do everything in the water park within 2 hours even on a busy day. If you do not book your passes online, expect to pay around $7 to $10 dollars more. Also, staying on the resort property does not get you any discounts unless you are a member. Will definitely visit again!

Justin Hoffman — Google review

A true gem of the Shenandoah Valley! Massanutten has always been our favorite way to end summer break. The indoor waterpark is perfect for winter getways on the lazy River and great for big and littles alike with a multitude of waterslides for all ages. The expansive water fun system is hours of play for everyone. The outside is a true oasis. I highly suggest renting a cabana, grabbing a frozen drink, and letting you big kids have hours of fun in the wave pool, the huge rainbow slide or even take your littles to the obstacles, splash pad or the basketball dunk pool. The service was top-notch, and the lifeguards are even better! If you have been thinking of a cool weekend getaway for a waterpark. This is it!

karla snell — Google review

Small compared to the amount of people they let in. No room to swim. Doors left open, so it was cold. Just packed. The resort was nice, but not many resort activities, just the expensive adventure stuff. For the most expensive part of the resort, the cleaning staff needs to pay better attention. Too many requirements before checkout. Usually, it's get out before 10am. At Massanutten it's start the dishwasher, strip the beds, and take out the trash, and get out by 10am. Too expensive for all of that. Hospitality is lost when you mention you don't want to purchase vacation ownership with them.

Lynn Huth — Google review

Tons of fun! My kids and the adults had a blast! We came here in October and only did the indoor areas. So much fun! So much to do and see! Definitely will do this often as possible!

We had so much fun! Place was not to full on Monday 3h before closing and we had tons of rides. Kids ages 10, 12 and 14 and the parents all enjoyed our time. Staff was great and customer service delightful as I bought an extra ticket online for the wrong day and they totally had no problem addressing a refund!5- stars! You can bring your towel. No more pics as I put phone away and had fun instead.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at the Massanutten Indoor/outdoorWater Park. There are exciting water activities & relaxing water activities as well. Things for young kids & things for older/less mobile adults. We had a great time. Note: I suggest eating before going & then eating afterwards "outside" of the park. This is because the food is a bit pricey for a family. 12 to 13 bucks for one single burger (not including fries or drink). Also, the food is just "average food at best. That's the only constructive criticism I have. Aside from that, it was a great.

Vernon Eason — Google review

Pricey, but we had a full day of fun. You can play indoors or outdoors. There is food on-site available. Lockers for rent $30. You'll get either $10 back or a $15 arcade card with locker key return. It was clean. Lifeguards are attentive.

Ann Christopherson — Google review

Huge Indoor Park! Tickets are steep but if you’re on vacay, you want to be in there! Buying tickets in advance on website is helpful and a little cheaper.

Lata Melwani — Google review

This review is for Christmas lights. Went there for Christmas Lights that they are doing it for the first time in the Outdoor section of the Waterpark. Overall, it was a good experience, something new. Buy tickets online to save. They have a little coffee shop set up there with a selection of coffee and sweets. At the time of my visit, the credit card machine was not working, so I had to pay with cash. The downside is that it is small if you compare it to price. $20 for 10-15 min walk..

Eugene S — Google review

We were celebrating our granddaughters birthday. First time visiting. Loved it! I was very impressed with the life guards, shocked at the number of missing toddlers I witnessed them helping.Parents need to learn that life vests are not your "babysitter" And may want to watch the Sounds of Freedom Movie. It would be great if there was somewhere to get water especially since it's hot. (Maybe I missed it ?)The only other observation was the dress code. I guess I did not expect to see the types of bathing suits allowed. Some beaches don't even allow thongs. I was just shocked. Cheeky is one thing, a string only, is something else. 🙈

Massanutten Waterpark is really nice! You can attend all year around because they have indoor and outdoor sections. Since most people talked about the waterpark, I will describe other sections of the building as well. If you do not want to be in the water like myself but you'd like to still watch your children or family have fun you can go to the watch area upstairs. Let me explain the waterpark building a little bit more. There are 3 levels to the water park building. The too floor: gift shop, waterpark observation seating area, dessert store, and restaurant. The middle floor is an arcade for all ages. The bottom level is for the waterpark. The top floor is where you can buy tickets to everything related to massanutten resort. You can also go into the gift shop and buy items. There is also a sweetz dessert bar and a bar & grill restaurant on the top floor. This is also where you'd look down at the waterpark in the seating area to watch your family. The second floor is basically a dave n busters area. The entire floor has up to date games. I noticed the staff constantly cleaning the game area while i was there. And the bottom floor is all related to the park which is where you enter, store your items, buy your tickets and so in.

Natlie — Google review

This was so much fun. I felt like a child all over again. The slides were fun and my 4 yrs old daughter was everywhere and it was safe. . The tube ride was relaxing and I highly recommend for a nice vacation getaway for the family. I did wear sun shades because the water splashes everywhere.

Tanisha Maxwell — Google review

Great place to visit, especially if you live in the area because you can always go back and forth. If you do not live in the area is best to stay a couple days and experience the full effect of the resort. There is so much to do so. Many options from all ages of the family and yes, you do have to drive a little bit here and there. It is all within a short radius. I highly recommend a visit if you haven't and if you have, why not visit again? There is one thing that I would recommend that. The park change that every person that pays for a ticket to the water part could at least receive a towel. It was not informed to me prior to that. My admission did not even include a towel. And I had to purchase a towel for 4 plus people in my party. To me that was my only concern. Am I only issue I went to the water park? Add to the masoning resort with no expectations and my expectations were met. I feel like if you have expectations. Then you could be disappointed so from my experience of my family's experience. We had a great time.

My experience at the Colonnade Club has been one of the best on Grounds. It is a very pleasant place, well kept, and with a most genial staff. They are friendly, greet you warmly, and are willing to chat and make you feel at home. I have been at the University for several years, and this has not been the case all the time. In the last year, however, I have seen a tremendous change with the current staff. It has made the Colonnade a place of respite from daily grind where a cup of coffee, a few cookies, and a warm reception by the staff makes my day. My colleagues and I frequently comment on this pleasant turn of events. Keep it up. Your staff make the place what it is!

Sights & Landmarks

White Oak Lavender Farm is a must-visit destination in the Shenandoah Valley, especially during June when the lavender is in full bloom. Visitors can enjoy wine tasting, tours of the beautiful farm, and indulge in unique treats like lavender ice cream. The farm also offers a petting farm for kids and features an alpaca named Avalanche. With picturesque grounds, quaint shops, and a variety of products to choose from, it's an unforgettable experience for all.

Have been going to White Oak Lavender Farm for years; excited to see them starting to open back up. Love their products - highly recommend the lavender pepper grinder, the lavender lemon freeze pop, lavender ice cream and lavender wine slushy. The addition of the tasting room and wines is so exciting and the wines are good! Definitely add this to your agenda if you are in the area. They have an audio tour and a petting farm for the kids. Be sure to say hi to Avalanche the Alpaca when you go. 🦙

I just left and couldn't wait to leave a review. I loved this place! The grounds were stunning, the shops were quaint and has so many options of things to choose from. The smell was AMAZING. I spent way more money than I had intended, but it's worth it. The wine selection and sampling was great, and they had samples of other products, as well. They had some activities for children, and the parking was accessible for the people I was with who have walking issues. Great experience all around!

My kids and I visited not to long ago and must say it White Oak is a treasure for Valley. From the store to the outdoor areas, it is beautiful. Fantastic location for a fun family trip. Inexpensive to get to discovery area. We went out of season so we were unable to pick but they have lots of gift shop stuff to make up for it. Dried lavender, bath oil, buds for tea, chapstick, lavender wine slushees, even food products like lavender balsamic oil. So happy with our trip and would come back if I didn’t live five hours away! Come here just for the wine and gift shop if any thing lol

My family and I were here for the weekend from DC & while we were looking for attractions nearby we came across this place. We immediately wanted to check this out since they had small animal encounters where you can pet small animals. The animals were adorable and the place overall was just beautiful. You can walk around and see the bigger horses, rabbit and chickens. The place was so relaxing and peaceful. We stopped by the gift shops where they have so many products with lavender. We also stopped by the tasting room where we tried a lavender strawberry slushy. It was amazing. I can’t wait to come back into town and check this place out again.

Lovely lavender! 🌱🌱🌱The scent was everywhere in the store. Charming store 🐐and animals (extra entrance fee). We enjoyed sipping wine 🍷but couldn’t decide on any we really wanted to take home. Maybe the idea of lavender infused wine just didn’t appeal to us. But we tried and had a pleasant experience here.Really friendly wine baristas. Good time here.

Absolutely love this place!!! It's a great visit for all ages!! They have plenty of things to do !! Wine tasting, playing outdoor games, visiting the farm animals, going through the lavender maze and so much more!! They have the best wine slushes around!!! They were so sweet and not watered down. They make a great after work treat! The lavender is also incorporated with the wine which makes a very unique taste. Don't forget to visit the shop and grab lavender locally made products ranging from essential oils, lotions, heating pads, soaps and so much more. Don't forget to check the freezer for the lavender ice cream!! Yes you heard that right lavender ice cream. A perfect dessert to relax anyone. Or if you're not in the mood for ice cream try the lavender coffee or tea that's in the back of the store ( free samples. This place also ships bundles of lavender, lavender products and of course their wine !! So stop on by and support a small local business and enjoy!!!!

What a serendipitous last-minute decision to visit this surreal place. We had no idea what to expect other than what's on their brochures but can assure you, there's no words to explain how peaceful and tranquil the property is. Beautifully manicured gardens, tactful decor, and animals too! Don't forget to get a sampling of some culinary lavender, too!

Surprised by the beauty and serenity of this place. Well worth the trip and paying $5 to walk through their area behind the shop. Free range chickens, alpacas, horses, bunnies all reside and appear to be well kept and loved. The landscaping is breathtaking. I was ready to move in. There is a wine tasting area which we partook of and a shop that sells amazing lavender products. An excellent stopping point that I would highly recommend. You really need to experience this little gem because words do not do it justice.

What a beautiful and serene place. I loved strolling the grounds and seeing the animals. I like that they aren’t forced to interact with people and they seem super happy. Their gift shop is amazing and they have so many lavender products. Loved their golf and garden balm. They have live music and have recently built a stage. I’d highly recommend this as a must see when visiting the area. It’s perfect for visiting with friends, kids, families and even alone.

Looks good, smells better, and they have drinks! Great place to hangout, try some wine and beer... several lavender products like soups, creams, etc. Ice-cream for days like today... animals around the property... whoever put this thing together did a fantastic job!

Marcel Santos — Google review

A very cool place. If you love sweet wines as my wife does, don't go here. I hade the beer flight. I was impressed by 2 out of 4. That's about par as we all don't like everything. Very pretty environment with animals like donkeys and goats. Games for kids and plenty of seating in and outside.

Virgil Otto — Google review

Our group of 8 came to the farm as part of my friend's bachelorette party weekend. We knew it was a great place when we were greeted by chickens in the parking lot! Despite the rainy weather, we had a blast enjoying the grounds and a wine tasting in the enclosed pavilion. The Chambourcin wine was one of the best that I've ever had, and the lavender infused ice cream was delicious! Can't wait to come back again to experience the farm in another season!!

Andy Beyer — Google review

Went well beyond our expectations. The wine slushies are a must! The farm is gorgeous!!! This is a must visit if you are in the area. They even have beer if you don't like wine.

Raina Young — Google review

Nice winery with friendly staff and family owned. Check out their event list as there is a nice stage for music events, fire pit tables, and their is even beer and ice cream they make. If you are visiting JMU or Harrisonburg this is super close. The garden is well maintained and lavender everywhere.

Chris Roberts — Google review

We stopped by for a bit close to closing on a Sunday. What a great place. The gift shop was really cute with a variety of merchandise. We got some lavender ice cream and it was really good! Stopped into the tasting room for a flight of wines and a beer and enjoyed everything. Every person we met while there was so nice and we felt very welcome. Extra points for the horses!!We weren't there for long but it was such a nice experience.

Danielle Brusoe — Google review

Pretty neat place - hard to describe it because there's so much to see and do. There's the winery part, the wonderful store that is basically lavender-everything (never knew lavender pepper was a thing but now I wanna try it) and the farm side which let's you pet the horses and alpacas and sheep and goats! They're even a monarch butterfly migration stop. They also do weddings! If you are driving through as a tourist or are a local and want to have a full day out, look to go here.

These caverns have stalagmites, stalactites & bats, plus a pool & mini golf on the park property.

Great experience. We had to wait an hour and a half because we didn’t book ahead, but they gave us a free round of putt-putt golf while we waited. The golf was fun, and the cavern was excellent. It took a little over an hour. I would recommend these caverns to anyone.

Wonderful gem in the north end of Virginia's Appalachia. 25 bucks gets you a walking tour through some amazing caverns. The geological structures of these caverns were unlike anything I have seen. They are also very old so lots are broken but I think it added to the history of the caverns. Rose gave a fantastic tour. I highly recommend this if you are visiting Shenandoah or Blue Ridge Parkway.

If you're looking for a day trip to explore and learn this is the place to go. It has great atmosphere and learning environment for people of all ages. Not only does the offer caverns but outside activities as well. The tour was great and guided by knowledgeable people. The cavern itself was a cool experience, worth the time. When you do purchase tickets for the cavern make sure you use one of the discounts that they accept. The cover that stove is that wheelchair accessible and or stroller accessible.

This place was wonderful. We had a great tour guide and it was so pretty. We went late afternoon and had a very small group. I would recommend this visit to anyone. The tour is about an hour long and little over 3/4th of a mile. The walk is easy with a gravel footpath. There are a few stairs

J L — Google review

This place has a great guided tour. Anna was so funny and informative. The pictures we got that day didn't do this place justice.Massive rooms of rocks that will blow your mind. 55 degrees so dress warm.

Did the Rock Bottom Adventure tour with my wife. We had 3 guides to ourselves as we were only ones signed up that day. After getting our gear and instructions, we made our way up to the cave entrance. This is not your walk through tour. You are maneuvering around, sometimes crawling around and getting a bit dirty. There are some options as to the difficulty of the paths you travel. But the interior of the cave was incredible. The guides were great, very knowledgeable about the history of the cave, and felt very safe. Definitely make sure you have shoes with good tread and be prepared for some fun climbing and crawling around. Highly recommend.

Eric Kaari — Google review

This was a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours. It was actually a Google recommendation, and I couldn't be happier that we saw it. It's a guided tour only, but no complaints here! Our guide, John, was incredible. Friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly extremely passionate about caving and spelunking. The tour he gave our group was informative and entertaining! We'll be sure to check out Fountain cave next time we're in the area!

Jeremy Futrell (ThePenMaster) — Google review

What an amazing experience! We loved every bit of this tour. Daniel (we think that was his name!) our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and had a lot of fun tidbits to tell us. The tour is as explained on the website-expect to spend 70-75 minutes below. One thing you don’t know until you get there is no food or drink is allowed in the cavern. And there is no bathroom (obviously) until you leave. Also as part of the tour our guide turned off the cave lights for about 20-30 seconds so we could experience total cave darkness. While super cool, this may be something people want to know before going in as there could be people or kids who could be afraid.

Erin S — Google review

My husband and i were staying in Luray,Virginia to do some hiking decided to book the after hours Grottoes Crawl. It was the full three hours of crawling through holes/tunnels and walking around the cave and it was awesome! This was our first time in a cave/caverns and it was incredible. We had a terrific time with our guides Gabe and Dianna! They were so interactive and funny together. There were only four people in our group and it made it really easy to ask questions and learn more about the caverns. If you like more of an adventure book this tour!! It was so cool to walk around the caves in total darkness after hours, we got a good mix of history/geology/and adventure all in one. So happy we took the drive and decided to check out Grand Caverns!

Nicole Mrofchak — Google review

Gabe was awesome! He was funny, informative and was a joy to be our tour guide! Learned a lot during the tour and enjoyed the scenery within the caves. There was a lot of parking and the cave was chilly enough for me to wear a light sweat shirt, but I prefer the heat so each to their own.

Justin Nguyen-Le — Google review

Chillingly fun! The cave stays a constant 54 degrees so bring a jacket. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and added bits of humor throughout. The cave is a natural beauty. Very much enjoyed.Caution should be taken as pathways are dimly lit and can also be slippery.

Chassidy Collins — Google review

Out of all the cavern tours I have done up and down the I-81 corridor, this was definitely the most informative and interesting. Aaron did an excellent job of incorporating both science and history into the tour, which I thought was fantastic because the mix of both is really what sets Grand Caverns apart from any of the others up or down the road.My only complaint (and I am not even sure that anything could be done to fix this for someone in the future, but it made my experience unpleasant enough that I probably wouldn’t come back) is the other folks who were on the tour. I am about 5 feet tall on a good day and my son, who is 7, is about a head shorter than me. Every other one of the 20 plus people were average height to tall. In no way were we, in our dwarfish state, going to block anyone’s view of anything (well maybe the floor)However, I think at least half if not more of the people on that tour at one point or another SHOVED either my son or I out of their way. To the point where I loudly commented on it. Maybe they misunderstood where we were and thought we were trying to get off the Titanic or something, idk. Anyway it was dumb and I was too tired to deal with Karens so wasn’t worth interrupting Aaron’s A+ tour to make a scene.

Jennifer Goad — Google review

our tour guide, daniel, was very informative and came off as a trustworthy guy. the views were of course very beautiful but it’s also nice to know the history of the caverns

The caverns themselves are marvelous. I’ve seen a lot of caves, and these were definitely at or towards the top of the list. We chose a walking tour, but “adventure tours” that go deeper into the caves are also available. Our tour guide, Diana, may have been the best tour guide I’ve had the pleasure of following in my entire life. At the beginning of the tour, a little girl expressed her apprehension. Without missing a beat, Diana called her over to a formation where she shone her flashlight and pointed out the sparkling calcite to help her see how magical (not scary) it was.She was upbeat, funny, projected well, and she answered every question asked of her. She kept things moving at a good pace (not too rushed, but quick enough that we could see as much as possible). She remembered that I had asked about helictites halfway through the tour, and she took special care to point out one as we exited (and of course gave a great explanation of the science behind them). She did a great job of balancing her commentary between the history and science of the caverns. She pointed out the imagined shapes and corresponding names (e.g. a “zoo” of animal-shaped rock formations), but she didn’t dwell on them to the point of tediousness the way I’ve some cave tour guides have done in my experiences elsewhere.Perhaps most importantly, it was thoroughly apparent that she loves caves and teaching people about them. Please give Diana a raise (and a laser pointer) ASAP!

Farmstead-turned-winery with a tasting room & gourmet food trucks, plus free access to polo games.

Such a beautiful, family friendly property. We did an in-person tasting of five different wines and the staff member who helped us was very knowledgeable and super welcoming. It was hard to choose which ones to take home, but we picked 4 out of the 5. We will definitely be returning to watch one of the Polo matches they have on the property.

Since the very first time I ever visited (which was before my husband & I even started dating), I knew I wanted to get married at King Family Vineyards. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and the facilities are equally gorgeous. In learning more about the amenities they offer, we knew this was the wedding venue of our dreams!Juan and the rest of the Events team made planning a breeze. They were prompt in answering any questions we had, and their professionalism & experience in event planning was evident in their responses to us. They also provided an extensive list of preferred vendors, which was my North Star in planning - though we had a day-of coordinator, we found all of our vendors ourselves, and I always started with this resource from King's when looking for who to hire. With regards to the wine selection, our tasting was so fun, and we didn't have to worry about running out of anything during the actual event since they were available to pull any additional bottles we needed.Financially, they were very transparent about what was included before the contract was even signed - there were no surprise fees or hidden venue "upgrades" that would have costed extra. We also appreciated how much flexibility we had in what vendors we selected, which ultimately allowed us to stay within our budget. Many of the vineyards we looked into in the Central VA area have strict requirements about outside vendors, especially with catering, which can add up quickly in addition to what they charge for the venue, but with King's, we had a lot of autonomy in these decisions. They also provided their wines at a discounted rate and bought back any unopened bottles we didn't use or want to take home.My biggest suggestion is to book as soon as you can, especially if you want a fall wedding! Their calendar fills up fast just because they're such an incredible venue. I also want to mention that we got married in mid-November post-daylight savings, and though I was initially concerned about this timing (first because of the foliage and second we had our ceremony at 4:30 pm before the winery closed), we luckily had beautiful weather with a colorful backdrop, and the time of day didn't end up mattering at all. We are still getting rave reviews and compliments from our guests about how magical our venue was!Overall, having our wedding at King Family Vineyards was absolutely a dream, and I would give them more than 5 stars if I could. Thanks a million for making our wedding so enchanting and memorable, King's!

Oh my gosh so much fun! The winery is beautiful!! They have a fantastic patio area that is huge that holds tons of people in addition they have a barn area where all of the horses are kept that also has a sitting area out there as well. The wine was excellent and the service was phenomenal.I look forward to returning with my teams to celebrate another occasion soon

Cool vineyard. The wine was good and the food trucks on site were nice. The polo match got rained out but everyone still got to see the horses.

Elliott Schwartz — Google review

We visited on a windy and chilly day, so we were unfortunately not able to enjoy the spacious outdoor area or explore the expansive grounds as we would have liked. We took refuge in the warm and cozy tasting room in front of the fireplace. It was the perfect setting to warm up and enjoy our self guided red tasting. We must have caught the guided tasting room manager, a well loved tabby cat, on a union break! We love seeing cats wherever we go, so this was a highlight.Even though we adore our reds, we especially loved the Crozet wine. Like a favorite pair of blue jeans, it is timeless and goes with everything! We're looking forward to returning, in warmer months, to see a polo March and enjoy a vineyard and winery tour.Cheers to continued success in 2023!

Breathtakingly beautiful country surrounds the tasting room of King Family Winery. One of the region's larger operations built for a high volume of visitation. You'll be served by a host at the counter register in the gift shop. Then invited to sit at one of the many areas to enjoy your flight. Tastings in branded glasses. Surprisingly there's little wine education other than the menu copy which you are invited to view in your phone using a QR code. Wines are made from both estate grown grapes and those bought from other farms. This winery hosts polo matches on Sundays. It appears to have a large event venue. With the pleasant tasting environment this didn't disappoint. A fifth star would have been on offer if wine education was a more prominent feature.

Arrived mid afternoon on a hot summer day with friends, their kid and our dog. No dogs were allowed inside but there was ample room of seats with shade. We found a picnic table along the back of the patio. The staff was friendly, the wine was amazing as well. The property is amazing. They had plenty of options of gifts and food to enjoyed. We had the pretzel sticks with everything bagel hummus. I feel like if it was busy, you could still enjoy your time without becoming overwhelmed. I highly recommend and will be back to this vineyard to watch one of their polo matches!

Gorgeous grounds, delicious wines, and the best wine tour ever! Tom taught us so much! His education of the King Family and the science behind making the wine truly exceeded all expectations!! He truly was the highlight and science to the most memorable day. 10 stars to Tom! Although polo has finished for the season, we got the opportunity to watch a practice and experience the ambience of the gorgeous horses, grounds, & wines. We visited multiple wineries yesterday, the King Family Vineyards was by far the best!!! Highly recommend!!!

My cousin had their wedding at KFV, and it was enchanting! It was very clean and chic. The staff was courteous and proficient. My favorite thing was the mountain views. Simply stunning. I can't wait to return in the summer to see it in bloom.

We attended a wedding here and it was absolutely gorgeous! In the fall, it could not have been a more beautiful venue. The bartenders were out of this world - they always remembered our drinks! While the vineyards were open to the public at the same time our wedding was going on, there was plenty of space so that our party still felt secluded and private.

Amanda Wagner — Google review

Today we had the privilege of visiting the King Family Vineyards and were able to immerse ourselves in the art of winemaking. In addition to an excellent tasting, we were given a first-hand explanation of how such a delicious wine is grown and how much work is involved. Many thanks to the King family and the whole team for the great experience! Highly recommended for anyone who values excellent wines and wants to enjoy them in a beautiful setting.

Food & Drink

Vineyards surrounded by mist-shrouded mountains, offering wine tastings & an elegant restaurant.

Love the views from this vineyard! Atmosphere was great! Plenty of seating and not crowded. We went in April, so it could be more busy during the summer months, but they do reservations, so I would suggest that when it gets warmer. My fiance and I both had different sandwiches and they were delicious. They also have a separate restaurant on the grounds with more food options. We left with four different bottles of wine, and could have left with more since they were all fantastic. Highly recommend this place for wine enthusiasts or just the casual wine drinker.

Joseph Dean — Google review

Club member since forever. My wife is a picky wine drinker and has rarely been disappointed. The reserve selections have been spectacular since at least 2020. Incredible value with discounts galore and many options from white, red, mixed, and reserves. Cannot recommend this option highly enough. We've never had a single problem in over a decade of quarterly offerings. Obviously the crowds have grown over the years but the ownership and staff have anticipated this and planned accordingly. Reservations and early arrival really help ensure the best experience.

We stayed at the Farmhouse at Veritas last November and enjoyed a four course wine paired dinner. Unfortunately there was a forest fire in Rockfish Gap with a resulting traffic jam that prevented us from attending "wine hour" prior to dinner. We visited the tasting room on 5 April 2025 and had the opportunity to enjoy more of this vineyard's offerings. This was the highlight of our weekend when it comes to the four vineyards visited. The tasting area here is a large two-story affair with plenty of outdoor seeting as well. We did not have a look at the food menu but did start to get hungry watching all of the food go by.Vesritas was awarded three gold medals in the 2024 Governor's cup and we enjoued them all. The two wines on the white side of the ledger are coming home with us to be enjoyed later. Highly recommended!

Delightful experience! We sampled both the reserve and classic flights. Both were top notch and we found the wines very palate pleasing! The grounds of the Vineyard were welcoming and provided a relaxing atmosphere. We enjoyed our visit and look forward to another in the future.

Great wine and atmosphere! $20 for a flight tasting of four wines. We went around 11:30am when they first opened and were able to sit down without a reservation. I can definitely see the outside getting crowded during the warmer months and would recommend making a reservation. Their reservation process is confusing and not streamlined, but that may be due to third party websites issue.

Loved this place! The waitress was super kind and friendly. I was able to try 2 sweet desert wines and bought a bottle of one of them. The cheese board was delicious with various cheese, grapes and raisins - very worth the price! I'll definitely come back with a friend next time.

Definitely a popular place was glad we made a reservation for table service! Definitely recommend the charcuterie boards! They’re large and filling. We did a tasting and enjoyed that to accommodate their business they had tasting videos to review their wines.

Beautiful winery! This is more a live younger crowd. Make reservations for the outdoor seating. The inside seating was also beautiful, but obviously you miss the views of the property. It has great menu items for food. We ordered the bacon toast which was delicious. All of the white wines were great! I would definitely go back and hangout again.

Overall our experience at Veritas was nice. Good wine, a stacked charcuterie board and a decent view of the groundsService was okay. When I made my reservation I added a table side wine tasting and once we arrived and it was explained to us I couldn’t see paying $40/person so we just opted for a bottle of wine. Also the number of restrooms is an issue. At one point there was a line 7-8 deep. Fortunately our table was on the opposite side and we were able to enjoy our wine in peace without a line of people beside us

Veritas vineyards and winery is a wonderful place to visit over and over again! We are club members and each time we go to pickup our order, we also get lunch and enjoy our complimentary glass of wine. Specialty Museums

The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library offers guided tours of the former president's birth home and personal belongings, as well as access to a related museum and gardens. The museum itself is not very large, but visitors have the opportunity to learn about Wilson's character through informative guides. While admission may be considered slightly expensive at $15, it is worth visiting for those interested in history and can be completed within an hour.

Great museum and friendly staff. I did the guided tour of the house and then the self guided part of the museum. The Woodrow Wilson house was cool, but the museum was the highlight for me. Great timeline with memorabilia of the former President's life. The other great bonus was the WWI trench exhibit.

Lexie West — Google review

Compared to Regan, Carter, or Bush Presidential sites, this stop in American history is modest in size and scope but also appropriate for the location’s place in Mr Wilson’s life for though he was born here, his family moved to Augusta, Georgia before he was two and where he would spend his boyhood during the war years. He would return to visit before his presidentialterm began and his second wife sought to remember his legacy of a progressive leader through supporting the preservation of his one-time home. Though modest, we found the exhibits well executed, the tour genuinely led, and the staff friendly and helpful. I was pleased to have toured and commend it to others seeking an introduction or greater information on this president who brought the popular election of senators into US politics, sought multiple popular reforms in politics and strived to keep America out of war but who now is known also as being an imperfect man of his era. Exhibits cover his parents, his marriage and devotion to both of his wives, time as an educator and writer and his terms of office. An exhibit on trench warfare brings home a taste of World War 1.

Chris Manley — Google review

I'll be honest. I'm not a great fan of Wilson...but I learned a lot through this tour and got to see a little more into his character. The museum is not very big, but it comes with a tour of his birth home (the manse) and a well-informed guide to answer any questions. $15 might be just a bit high for this museum, but it was worth it for one visit. Plan on a half hour for the museum and a half hour for the tour.

Michael Miller — Google review

Interesting museum that is very informative and laid out in chronological order. On display are actual items from his child hood home next door as well as his Presidential Pierce Arrow. The price of admission includes a guided tour of the home he was born in. Worth the price.

Staunton is a quaint town off I81. This museum is small but informational. However, it cost $30 for the two of us to see the museum and adjacent house. It is handicap accessible, but difficult with wheel chair and no handicap access to lower level WW1 exhibit-which was a cool exhibit.. Tricky parking and really tight and difficult for handicap parking. They do not give a veterans discount, which is odd for historical museums of this type. Nice elderly woman guided us through house but seemed to rush us along. The town is worth the stop but the price is too high for this small museum.

Hank Williams — Google review

This museum was interesting for those that are History minded. I would not suggest to stop unless you are already in the area. Also it is $15 per adult which I feel is over priced. Should be in the range of $10-$12 per adult.

John Michael D'Alessandro — Google review

We have stopped in Staunton several times on our way north/south but never took the time to visit the Wilson Library. I would recommend it highly. They had a lovely tour of the house he was born in and then a very informative museum which focused on his presidency. The house tour could be an issue for people who struggle with stairs. Tour guide was very thorough and had lots of interesting stories to tell. The museum itself had a lot of information about Wilson's presidency and also about America at the time. They had a good exhibit down in the basem*nt of a ww1 bunker with sounds that I believe were actually recorded at the time. Good exhibit....and I have visited actual WW1 trenches in Vimy Ridge.....so I can vouch for the athenticity of the work. The gift shop is very good. Quite extensive. The garden needs some work....but it does look like they are in the midst of some garden project which I hope will brighten that area up and make it a little more inviting. I only have one tiny complaint. When we were walking around the museum there was a meeting (an interview I believe) happening upstairs in what I presume were offices.....the voices really carried and it was a bit odd and a little intrusive. Maybe a closed door next time would be helpful.

Cindy Rotermund — Google review

Unfortunately didn't get to make it inside as the place was closing in half an hour when we got there. But it was cool to see the place from the outside and read any historical information they had on display. After viewing the place, made me read up more on Woodrow Wilson.

Brian Dible — Google review

We didn't go inside, but walked around the outside of the buildings and garden area. Wilson's birthplace from 1859 well preserved for public education.

James Merrell-Thomas — Google review

Great stop if you like history and have a goal to visit as many presidential sites as you can. There are two different areas to visit here, the home where Wilson was born and the museum. The home is a guided tour that takes about half hour. The museum is a self-guided area that would take quite a bit longer. The way that the WWI exhibit was made is particularly interesting. I liked how they tried to capture the feeling of being in the trenches. The staff was awesome. Knowledgeable, pleasant, and super helpful.

We splurged for the Behind-The-Scenes tour, arranging it ahead of time by calling and speaking to them, and fixing a date. In hindsight it was not expensive - it was WONDERFUL! We had what must have been four separate tours led by their various specialists, including the library as well as the house (Manse) and museum. We were able to ask as many questions as we wanted, and take our time. The curators, director and librarian planned some items out in advance to show to us as well. It was the highlight of our weekend in Staunton.

Diana Matthias — Google review

Very neat exhibits and excellent guided tour. $15 ticket includes tour of the house Woodrow Wilson was born in. Dedicated (free) parking lot for museum visitors. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. The tour of Wilson’s home takes about 30 minutes and the museum can be explored in about 45 minutes to an hour. Be sure to check out the WWI exhibit in the basem*nt. Masks required in Wilson’s home.

Museum

Sights & Landmarks

Frontier Culture Museum is a unique tourist attraction that offers visitors the opportunity to take self-guided tours of Colonial farms. The museum boasts a costumed staff, typical buildings, crops and animals that showcase life in the new and old world. During the winter season, guests can enjoy individual tours with golf cart rides to navigate around the property. However, visiting during non-winter months is recommended as it allows visitors to see people actually living on the property.

Golf cart was $25 April '22 and felt absolutely necessary on a hot day with two toddlers. The staff were awesome. Every spot worth stopping and chatting with them. We went on a weekday and there was just a few other people there. Wool Week was pretty cool even though we were too late for a shearing. Got to see baby lambs in addition to the sheep and pigs.

Amy Workman — Google review

The Frontier Culture Museum is a great place and a must see! First thing, you can either walk the path or get a golf cart. We opted to walk it with a toddler and a stroller and ended up stopping and my husband ended up going up the path after Germany to get a golf cart so we could finish all of it.The interpreters at each location were all very knowledgeable and were able to provide much detail on each location and various activities. There are animals and my toddler loved that. She would go up to the fence and watch them.Germany was my personal favorite. The lady sitting in the Germany house was amazing and gave so much information about the times and how families would live.My husband liked new America and the two at the last houses were so knowledgeable and explained daily life in those time. This was a great place to go to and explore and your able to take your time and not feel rushed during your experience. We loved it and will be traveling back to visit.

Theresa Nunez — Google review

Super fun outdoor museum with enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff and very cool original buildings. The museum is $12 for adults and has free parking. What I really appreciated was that there is an old world and new world exhibit where you can see from where many of the new world immigrants were from as well as the evolution of the houses in the new world. I liked that the vignettes of the houses included many places of the world including Africa and many European places. The museum also does a decent job of addressing the many dark and objectively bad things that happened during these times like the slave trade and wars with the Native Indian tribes. The museum was fantastic, with many cats and staff in period dress showing us their trades. I would definitely return next time I’m in Staunton.

Tiffany W — Google review

I believe 2 hours would be adequate but 3 would be best. I was by myself at the end of the day in April. There was a costumed person at each stop. Dedicated folks. Wish I knew about golf cart rentals. Had no idea how large and far between things were. Shuttles mentioned but never saw except some bearded guy zipping around. Very hot day. I saw most things and almost made the church. Lady watering the job pen said the bearded guy would probably give me a lift.... Not. Anyhow the lovely gentleman working the garden area was starting exit and said he would get the interpreter's golf cart to help me out. Old lady, little service dog, red face. Great clues a ride would be helpful instead of an ambulance. Anyhow, the bearded guy hollered at him. Hmmm. Hope he didn't get in trouble.

Brenda Karika — Google review

Place is amazing. Had a great time. Get the golf cart or will be walking alot. Place is up kept and beautiful. The interpreters are very knowledgeable. Good for all ages. Can't praise it enough.

Travis Martino — Google review

Awesome museum! You can explore the different houses and surrounding area of the different “countries” they set up along a long looped path. There’s also sheep, chickens, goats, pigs, and a cow spread out at the various sites; along with four very nice mouser cats.

Ashley Lane — Google review

Loved this museum. Perfect way to spend a cool Saturday morning. We did have personal guides in the form of the rescued cats that wander the grounds. The staff was very informative of their respective areas. Grounds are huge - lots of walking but if/when you get tired they do have shuttle golf carts to help out. Glad we stopped in.

RobertsMom NC — Google review

We’ve been in the area for several years without visiting, so it was nice to finally see some of the museum! What a neat concept. We visited the new world side with an individual tour guide since it’s the winter model. I appreciated that it included a ride in a golf cart, because this could be a ton of walking!! I’d like to return in the non-winter season when the people are actually out on the property. Still need to see the old world part of things too! I think during the non-tour guide model, I’ll want to rent one of the golf carts unless I’m in the mood for some good exercise.

Lacey Bauman — Google review

This was such a fun experience. It is a lot bigger than it appears from the highway. It took 2 hours and we did it kind of quickly. They have a golf cart to rent so you don't have to walk the whole thing. At each area there is someone to tell you about that era. The fella in the American Indian display was a wealth of knowledge. I would highly recommend this.

S ?Googlegirl? T — Google review

Beautiful property with tons of history and information. We chose to pay for a golf cart, mainly because the walk back is where the kids tire out. Worked out perfectly. Definitely recommend going when there's nice weather as it's all outdoor in-between exhibits. Super interesting and cool to see and hear how folks used to live hundreds of years ago.

Chaddouche — Google review

The weather was perfect high 40’s, we walked most of the grounds. The staff was excellent in knowledge of each display from different countries of yesteryears! I would recommend this place for numerous reason, but mainly it was a great memory!

Linda Arahill — Google review

Top quality living history museum with something for all ages. Great place to take a stroll, admire the buildings and learn something from the staff. Be sure to go to their special weekend events, there's so much more to see and learn during those.

Eric Young — Google review

Fantastic! We loved the clothing display at the museum office and each area with real authentic buildings. We rented a golf cart for $25 and it made our visit even better. We lived listening to the interpreters and seeing the buildings and gardens and way of life. It is an excellent place for families and homeschoolers. We visited 3 timed from NC and will be back. Entrance fees are very reasonable. Love it!

Teri Hanna — Google review

This open-air museum was amazing! I thought it was just going to be American focused, but I loved how there were historic homes from other countries as well. I was able to spend 2 hours here with my 4-year old without her getting bored or antsy. There was so much to keep her entertained. She really enjoyed seeing all the animals as well!

B W — Google review

This museum was amazing. The tour guide was great. He made it fun for the kids and kept them engaged throughout the whole tour. I highly recommend this museum and I highly recommend getting a golf cart which they have available for rent.

Debby Gonzalez — Google review

I've passed this place many times and wanted to stop by but time was always a issue. On a beautiful March day (today) I decided it would be a awesome time to visit. My wife and my two youngest grandsons made the trip over the mountain and made our way to the museum. What a awesome time we had. We rented a cart, and off we went to explore the past. There is so much to see and hear. My 6 year old grandson was full of questions and I was very pleased that the interpreters took the time to answer all of his questions on his level.Everyone we encountered were awesome. This museum is a must see trip. We purchased a yearly pass and are definitely looking forward to the next visit. We are even planning to bring a picnic lunch and just enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

Performing arts theater

Concerts & Shows

The American Shakespeare Center's Blackfriars Playhouse is a charming venue that offers classical performances in a re-creation of Shakespeare's indoor theater. The theater enforces strict COVID protocols, including vaccine and ID checks at the entrance and mandatory mask-wearing to protect the actors. Romeo and Juliet 2022 was an amazing production, featuring music, singing, phenomenal acting, stunning voices, and raw emotion that was breathtaking.

At the entrance they do check your vaccine status as well as your ID, and yes they do require you to wear a mask to protect the actors. I respect that, especially now during the pandemic. With that said…Romeo and Juliet 2022 was AMAZING! The cast played music and sang before the show started, and during the intermission. The acting was phenomenal, their voices were amazing, the raw emotion they use in their art was breathtaking. My family and I truly loved the show and the beauty of the theatre itself! We had driven 3+ hours to see the play, and it was worth the drive!

Raven Wolf — Google review

My husband and I spent the weekend in Staunton, celebrating our anniversary. We love history and the arts so we thought it'd be a good choice, and seeing Julius Caesar performed at this theater was a wonderful addition to our weekend plans. The staff were great and the actors were amazing. They really stay true to the Shakespearean experience and it's something to behold! Everyone did a magnificent job. My only complaint is that we sat in the second row on the second level and there was absolutely no back support. It's just a bench, which can be uncomfortable after 2+ hours. It appeared that the other seats had at least partial backs. Just something to make note of if you're making seat selections. Other than that, terrific!

Robin Lunsford — Google review

We went for the matinee of Romeo and Juliet it had a modern spin and was all and all a wonderful performance. The venue is great with great acoustics.

Bryan Vig — Google review

The missus and I attended the opening night of Taming of the Shrew, and had a rollicking good time. Delivery was fast-paced and energetic. I can see why this style of entertainment would have been popular in 1592.Minus 1 for the seating. While we weren't standing for the performance, the thin cushions on the wood benches began to become quite uncomfortable after about 90 minutes. At least there were seat backs.All-in-all, it was very interesting for us to experience Shakespeare as it would have appeared in the Bard's period. We would love to return for another performance.

David Bissette — Google review

What a fun place! The small cast puts on a few different plays during the season. I saw pride and prejudice and had a blast. Lots of laughs. They cast also plays some music before the show so get there a little earlier to see that. Would love to see more of their offerings.

Emily Schulz — Google review

Decent performance. The staff is incredibly Rude! A family of 5, spending $300 to attend, which pales to other theaters but the treatment was nasty! One member having severe asthma and literally cannot breathe for over two hours with a mask, only slightly pulling it away to keep from unnecessary attention, but attendants acting like we were criminals. Unnecessary and totally unnerving! We followed their rules but what a horrible experience!!!! Perhaps after Covid it would be okay but from people who have literally gone to the theater all over the world, not worth the fuss!Note, seats on the side also show less than 50% of the show.

Pamula Poteet — Google review

love it love it love it!!! saw the preview of the TEMPEST and it was amazing!!!! definitely go see a show when you are in town. staunton va was such a pleasant surprise! amazing theater and cast. a must do

J D — Google review

They make Shakespeare so fun! Just watched As You Like It and had an amazing experience. Laughed so hard at one point that I started crying. Wonderful actors and productions and a gorgeous venue! Definitely worth the visit!!

Rose Sebastian — Google review

It is a very nice theater, though the seats can be a bit more comfortable.I attended a performance of Measure for Measure. Most of the cast was capable, however the actor playing the villain whispered too many of his lines and could not be understood. The theater includes a small bar and gift shop, though I did not avail myself of their services. It is worth a visit when in town.

MFPhoto1 — Google review

I came here about a month ago for the first time with a couple of friends of mine and I was so enthralled at the beautiful space, the friendliness of the staff, and the absolutely wonderful performances of the actors. We saw Much Ado About Nothing and I loved it so much that I brought my mom and sister with me to another showing this past weekend. I am so glad that I know about the American Shakespeare Center, it is definitely going to become somewhere I plan to frequent whenever I can. I particularly loved the incorporation of music in the breaks before and in the middle of the play. These actors are so incredibly talented, I really cannot say enough nice things about my experience here.

Hannah Sullivan — Google review

We have been to the Center several times over the past decade, but this 2023 season is exceptional. Fantastic acting, costumes, scenery. The play we saw was the Christmas Carol and our adult children agreed that it was a visit unlike any before. Highly recommend!!

Dirk Petersen — Google review

Excellent, excellent, excellent. If you have the opportunity to visit, go. The players and cast are amazing. They pull you right into the performance. I was somewhat skeptical at first. But you will not be disappointed. We are looking forward to returning.

James Staton — Google review

Shakespeare has never been so accessible and perfect! Love the bar.Wish the gift shop had more stuff to buy. Some of the performers could not project their voice and need to learn that.Loved it when they had the synopsis of the first half of the play printed out

Eric D — Google review

Love love love this place! You are transported back in time with the decor and set up but then the actors bring fresh content and present humor and I love seeing them play music and have fun together! Always entertaining and if you want to have an adventure can sit on stage sometimes to participate with the actors.

Anna Finch — Google review

The company has so much *fun* onstage, it's contagious! Performers are top-notch, and their interpretation of Shakespeare is modern and accessible. We love the musical numbers beforehand and at intermission (with song choices usually hilariously relevant to the play). Maybe I've only seen comedies thus far?

Kate Adamson — Google review

This is a gorgeous recently renovated theater in Staunton, Virginia. We went to see The Tempest by William Shakespeare on a weekday. The acting was excellent. Bonus points for labeling the gender-neutral bathroom and for the actors telling us their pronouns in the talk back about the show. This was my first time in Staunton and my first time at the theater. We will definitely come back!

Benjamin Randolph — Google review

Beware of upper level seating...I bought tickets ($60 each ticket) for my family to see Christmas Carol. It was incredibly disappointing. We were on the second level and could not see the stage. If we stood up and leaned over the railing, then we could see; otherwise, we could only see the tops of a few heads on the far end of the stage. If we stood up, we blocked others view. We left at intermission. I called the manager. In a condescending manner, she told me I should have read the frequently asked questions. So, just beware the upper level view (on the sides) is almost obstructed. We have decided against going back in January to see a Shakespeare play.

Awesome venue! And great people working there, too! So many varieties offered, it's hard to choose which one to get - so try a flight to help you decide! Cool merchandise, plenty of their awesome Cider to take home with you, as well. It was so relaxing, sitting on the deck & enjoying the scenery! They offer food as well, and everything looked & smelled fantastic, but we didn't get anything to eat. We want to go back again, so we'll try the goodies then! I can definitely recommend this as a great place to visit, hang out, chill - spend an hour or the afternoon! (Friendly) Dogs are welcome but must be leashed. I say give it a try, it's a wonderful place!

We were driving around stopping at various distilleries breweries side reasons and wineries in the area and stumbled across this one which was new to our entire group. We ordered at the bar and then sat outside with our drinks. And oh my goodness! What a gorgeous view. Service was wonderful and it was really cool to be able to see all the brewing mechanisms when you first walk in. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area

Aimee Robidoux — Google review

Got kids? This is the perfect place to relax, enjoy nature and entertain your children at the same time. They have what we call “Kid’s Cider”— in addition to their extensive “adult” lineup — and a beautiful, clean, shallow stream for kids to play in with shaded picnic tables nearby. We often stop by Traeger Brothers coffee for delicious brew (and simple, but convenient playground), then Blue Ridge Pig for amazing barbecue sandwiches, before heading here for a long, luxurious lunch (and parent) break! They have a new lineup of food this year that we haven’t tried, but I’m sure it’s delicious. Enjoy!

dci — Google review

Definitely stop here for the chicken sandwich or cheese steak - and some cider. Endless gas firepit out back, plenty of space to bring friends and enjoy the atmosphere. Friendly, happy staff who are interested in what's going on and in making sure everyone has a great time. There are a lot of opportunities to buy "merch," growlers, and to-go cans/bottles. Once you've had a few ciders, it is very tempting. Be warned!Stop at the distillery across the parking lot if you would like to try some of their spirits on ice. Very creative co*cktails! Also selling whiskey jugs to-go. Both spaces are dog friendly outside.Overall, wow! Was really happy to have the chance to visit and be a guest here. Please stop by! Most of the venue is handicap accessible. Lots of free parking - but it does fill up on the weekends - look for the signs to the auxiliary lot around back. Great place. Show up to eat, sip, and chill.

One of my all time favorite spots. The blackberry cider is beyond delicious (I miss the glass bottles!) and the view is amazing. I love it when they have little festivals with live music and food trucks, although their house food is also delicious and I believe they change their menu with the seasons. Anytime I have something to celebrate, I am at here at Bold Rock.

We came out to Nellysford, VA to visit Olwell Flutes and lo and behold, the original Bold Rock brewery was less than 1 minute away. It’s a beautiful location and Tonya and Garrett treated us so nice! Of course Bold Rock cider is delicious as well.Hope to come back again soon!

Very fun place! The Christmas decorations were beautiful, and loved the fire pit out back. The food was pretty good, and the cider was delicious. Definitely recommend trying a flight while you’re there!

Bold Rock is my beer of choice, so naturally, visiting the brewery was on my list. It is gorgeous! There is a small hiking trail, places to picnic, a creek, table dining outside, and live music. The service is fantastic. The cider is worth a tasting. The food is average and a little pricey, but enjoyable. Take time to take it all in and enjoy the day.Buy a case and enjoy!!

Margaret Bryant — Google review

We stop here at least once a year on our annual wintergreen trip. It’s got something for everyone. Great food, cider, the distillery, and a huge outdoor area for exploring.I like that they also have a local beer company on tap for those of us that aren’t cider fans.

Jason Fischer — Google review

Very cool brewery, I definitely will be going back. Really good brewery for family, a great outdoor atmosphere, just a really cool place overall.

Scott Leverett — Google review

My favorite brewery! My favorite cider. Most of the staff was awesome and the distillery staff helped me feel welcomed. 100% recommend stopping by and I will be back!

Amy Winstead — Google review

A very lovely place, cider is great! Food is great! Kids friendly! They have non alcoholic cider and dogs are welcome too! They have a big patio with beautiful view and a creek down the slope. We spent long time there just relax and play in the fresh water, and watch the little fishes in it. Did I mention the beautiful scenery? Highly recommend.

5 major cascades & a number of smaller ones that fall a total distance of 1,200 ft.

Hiking Crabtree Falls exceeded our expectations. The 3-4 mile hike (round trip) was beautiful, relatively easy, and ended with a gorgeous view. It’s a great hike for families and for dog walks. The path is very clear. Whatever you do, don’t climb on the rocks and don’t venture off the path. The hike took us about 3 hours as a family including lunch halfway through.

This place was absolutely beautiful, very peaceful and one of my favorite day trips. Its also about 40 min to Nelson 151 where there is a lot of wineries, distilleries and breweries. Also, beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

It's a wonderful hike any time of the year. Bring proper clothing depending on the weather... Keep on the trail to be safe and not damage the surroundings. This trail gets lots of use due to the beauty. Get there early to avoid lots of traffic! Enjoy!

Mark Perschel — Google review

Crabtree Falls in the George Washington National Forest is a terrific trail to enjoy beautiful scenery, a hike and amazing waterfalls. The trail was in very good condition ans.well maintained. There are areas where the height and size of steps could be challenging for people who mostly walk flat sidewalks. There is a short paved section at the bottom for strollers, walkers, and wheelchairs to still see some falls. Seemed to be adequate parking for visitors.

Michael Morningstar — Google review

You can get away with tennis shoes, but do yourself a favor and wear some sturdy hiking boots. Expect a good amount of big steps for the first third of the climb. Beautiful and shaded hike up with very very cool views at the top. Great way to spend a couple hours. Bring $3 for the parking fee envelope.

Went after noon and it's cool with fresh water and air too. Water is so cool and refreshing.

Two levels of parking lower then upper.. upper has more space. Lower falls is 500 feet from the upper parking lot. I highly recommend going to the top of the falls! Hike is uphill 1.7 miles so pack some water and a snack. Absolutely gorgeous breathtaking scenery! Well worth the excursion.

Huge beautiful waterfall with a hike up the mountain for around 3-4 miles, very rocky but well maintained. If you still feel like the hike wasn’t enough for you there are adherent ones that you can go on at the top of the mountain.Don’t forget to bring a pen and 3 dollar fee (cash only)!

This hike was truly gorgeous throughout the route. Lots of spots to stop and appreciate the beauty. Moderate but not too challenging and our two pups had a blast with us.

Sarah Townsend — Google review

Leg dayyy…moderately difficult all the way up kind hike but the path is clear and there are lots of stopping points with benches. Parking was $3 and the lower/upper lots are right next to each other. There are bathrooms but they’re pretty smelly.

Steep but short 0.3 miles to the first (and best) shady cascades. For a more vigorous hike continue to 1.3 to the upper, more open cascade. We turned around there but the trail continues to climb to 1.7 to a high meadow. Overall this was a very steep, high effort hike that involves “stair master” type climbing along with many rocks and roots to pay close attention to. You return downward the way you came to the parking lot. We did this in early August and had plenty of parking in the upper lot that is closer to the falls. Skip the lower lot to save some climbing.

Second time, but now with my husband and my baby girl (15 months old). Enjoyed the hike so much. We were camping in Sherando recreation area (40 minutes drive) and went for the hike. Before you go up there are restrooms. Well maintained area, so happy I did it again, after almost 4 years from the first time which was in cold winter.Date: June 6, 2023

Host at the tap room was great. Poured us 2 planks of 4 flights each. After enjoying that, we ordered up a couple pints. And after that, took home two growlers. Met the brewer. Dog friendly indoors. All at a very respectable price. For a beer drinker, it doesn't get much better than that. Cheers!

Great winery! We loved our tasting of some fabulous white wines and chatting with the manager. A very dog friendly place as well and a serene venue. Lots of places to sit and relax.

Kathie Gottwald — Google review

Great winery that is just a couple of miles off the interstate but it feels like it’s deep in the Shenandoah. They have several estate grown wines to choose from, red white and some dessert wines as well. Also on the weekend they have a brewery with about eight varieties of beer. Dog friendly, plenty of places to sit either inside or outside. Many weekends they have live music and food trucks.

We stopped in on a whim while road-tripping. Wine was good. Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. View was nice. To-go beers from the brewery were solid too. What more can you ask for?

Matthew fa*gan — Google review

Nice little winery/brewery. Most of the staff was friendly. Very laid back. Good farm views. Pricing was a little high and we preferred the whites and dessert wines to the reds. Cutting board and real knifes were a lifesaver with the cheese and crackers. Would come again for the ambiance.

Rockbridge Winery is an awesome place to hang out with friends and they have good wine, beer, and cider on their menu. They also at times offer a food truck and music too. The cider is really smooth and nice, we highly recommend this place. Come and enjoy yourselves.

We had our son’s welcome dinner here and it was more than wonderful! Karen and John were super nice, extremely helpful, and responsive to emails and texts. The vineyard is beautiful and quaint! Perfect for our dinner! Poor Karen was ill the day of our event and Graita stepped in for her, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Our guests so enjoyed the evening and raved about the place and the staff! Thank you Rockbridge Winery and Brewery for making my son’s Welcome dinner such a success. We will definitely be back!

Really enjoyed the winery. Loved the reds, particularly the cab franc, meritage, and syrah. The bartender was also super friendly, knowledgeable, and let us bring the dog inside since it was raining and there were no other patrons. I'd like to come back and taste the beer.

Great variety of tasty wines in a beautiful and relaxing setting. Special thanks to Jane for sharing her expertise. Check it out and enjoy. Recently added a craft brewery.

This was the perfect place to have some photos taken just after our wedding at the courthouse in town. Mind you, this was August 2020. Everything was still pretty locked down and our previous wedding plans, venue etc. were canceled. Everything was put together at the last minute but it still turned out beautifully ♡ The staff was super accommodating and wonderful, the wine and cheese samplings were spectacular. All around a pretty awesome place and can't wait to visit for our next anniversary!

Museum

Sights & Landmarks

The University Chapel, formerly known as Lee Chapel, is a 19th-century auditorium that holds events and features a museum with exhibits related to Robert E. Lee and the Civil War. The chapel underwent a name change due to political correctness. The museum has been relocated temporarily for renovations, but Lee's college office remains preserved exactly as it was when he passed away. Additionally, the crypt underneath the chapel serves as the burial site for the entire Lee family, including Robert E.

A peirce of history, where you can visit the 1868 auditorium (where you can see and take pictures behindthe original lectern that prisedent Lee was using 1968) , Valentine's statue The Recumbent Lee, the Lee family crypt, the amazing president Lee Office in display ,and the setting stage gallery which includes portraits and artifacts, that used to be displayed on the auditorium stage. ( all museums and galleries at W&L university are free admission)

It used to be called Lee Chapel until they changed the name to University Chapel because of political correctness.... for those who enjoy history and the Civil War.. this is the place to go? They don't bother to mention that the entire Lee family is buried in a crypt underneath the chapel.... they moved the Museum and Gift Shop because of Renovations but Lee's College office is still exactly the way he left it the day that he died.... and right outside the door of the crypt is the grave of Robert E Lee's famous horse Traveller, throw a few sugar cubes and a Apple for the good old boy... visit and enjoy.

D Tops — Google review

Very beautiful but it is hard to find on the maps as a history person. It used to be called Lee Chapel. Also traveller is buried outside but is hard to find. I’ve taken a picture from afar so if you’re looking for it you know where to go.

Sara Skees — Google review

Washington and Lee University Chapel is a nice of piece of history to tour.

sheri tucker — Google review

No signs for the Lee Chapel and no plaque on the wall of the chapel indicating that's the General Lee grave, nothing about south history. (Lee founded this university right?) After Monument Avenue in Richmond, VA, they want to make you forget this part of history? It was still closed in mid september.

J str — Google review

Lee Chapel & Museum is a National Historic Landmark on Washington and Lee University inLexington, VA. It was constructed during 1867–68 at the request of Robert E. Lee, who was president of the school (then known as Washington College), and after whom the university is, in part, named. The Victorian brick architectural design was probably the work of his son,George Washington Custis Lee, with details contributed by Col. Thomas Williamson, an architect and professor of engineering at the neighboringVirginia Military Institute.Upon completion and during Robert E. Lee's lifetime it was known as the College Chapel. Lee was buried beneath the chapel in 1870.In 1883 the University made an addition to the building to house the memorial sculpture of “Recumbent Lee” by Edward Valentine and a family crypt in the lower level, where the president's remains were placed. His wife, mother, father his children and other relatives are nowburied in the crypt as well. The remains of his beloved horse, Traveller, are located outside the museum entrance. The chapel was officially renamed from Lee Chapel onJune 4, 2022 by the university's "woke" board of trustees and given its current name. But if you still enjoy American history I encourage you to stop in for a visit. If American history offends though, you I'd stay away.

Ron Lamberth — Google review

Very historical chapel formerly known as the Lee Memorial Chapel, it is where he and his family are interred, and was partly constructed by Lee as a place to gather (instead of explicitly a church/chapel). There is a statue/monument to him constructed after he passed. There are some docents to help you out, but it otherwise is self-guided. Definitely worth a stop for Southerns, Americans, and history-fans all the same. Cheers.

Kyle Hartmann — Google review

Awe inspiring! So impressive. The recumbent statue of Robert E. Lee is sheer perfection. Excellent artwork inMuseum. Seeing Lee's office pretty much as he left it was like stepping back in history.

Joyce Webb — Google review

Small chapel and small museum. Nice memorabilia and artifacts in the museum, though. Unfortunately, the guides are way too eager to share their knowledge and want to talk and follow you around. You have no opportunity to sit, silent, take in, imagine, remember, appreciate. The chapel guide seemed offended that we visited the museum first, as she wanted to tell us about that as well. Parking lot is a bit of a walk, feels even further in this horrible summer heat. Worth a visit, just understand there's no chance for reflection.

Emily Steele — Google review

Outstanding location. Having a volunteer give background on the chapel is well worth it. The museum does an excellent job of of interpreting the school and Robert E. Lee. Highly recommend a stop here. A good place to learn about the links between George Washington and the Lee family.

Greg Knapp — Google review

This is a beautiful place with such great craftsmanship. Lots of history. Not handicap friendly steps involved. Definitely need to see from the front doors looking onto a beautiful campus to looking into the chapel.

Children's museum

Museums

Amazement Square is an educational museum filled with interactive exhibits perfect for children. The exhibits are anchored by a climbing tower that features slides and zip lines. Children can explore various displays and learn about how things work while having fun running from floor to floor. Notable exhibits include the James River model and the Jamestown display, but all of them are designed to engage children's curiosity and enhance their learning experience.

This is a great place for kids, and so much fun. The adults have almost just as much fun.

Kersten Cardwell — Google review

We have a membership and haven't regretted it! Two things to watch for: they have limited hours and days during certain seasons and the paint booth in the basem*nt also has limited hours (I believe only open after lunch). Check ahead so you don't promise your children you'll go... and then they are closed! Speaking from experience. It's a great place for a school or homeschool field trip.**Sorry for weird angles or not full views of things but I try to not get faces in the videos/pictures for privacy sake.

Cheyenne Bowman — Google review

Delightful.During the school season, it’s a pleasure to have somewhere to take my 3 year old son that’s not crowded. We can spend an hour daily going back to his favorite exhibits and exploring new ones. As an adult, I’ve learned so much already and would love to spend a day here alone.Their “Everyone is Special” initiative focuses on autism with trained individuals in the field—a great opportunity to reach out to others in the Autism community.Spend some time browsing their website. There are a lot of valuable resources here. The staff is wonderful.

Went here on a field trip with my child's class. He had a great time and really enjoyed being there. We will definitely be back as a family, so we can really take our time on each level. I really enjoyed the honey bee section.

An amazing interactive children’s museum. My 2 year old son and I came here one day in the winter as we were trying to find something to do as it was so cold. He had so much fun running from floor to floor exploring every new interactive display and learning how things work. He really loved the light up stairs! The other fun display was the James River model and the Jamestown display. I am actually planning to bring him back for his 3rd birthday next week and see how much more he can play. They have done an incredible job with the entire facility. It was very clean and the staff was helpful and polite. We can’t wait to come back!

Meredith Guarino — Google review

This place is awesome! My 4 year old had a blast. Several floors of different games and animals to explore. Such a cool place and the admission is as only $36 for 3 people. Highly recommend for kids under 12. We got there when it opened and there was no wait. The admission allows you an all day pass so you can leave and come back later too.

Carrie J — Google review

Came here on a field trip with my 5 year old sons preschool class. There is a lot to do for kids their age. They all had a very good time. The only reason I’m deducting stars is because I along with several other moms LOST their child in the tunnels and tubes. It says ages 5 and up but should honestly be much older. It’s insanely easy to lose your little one no matter how much you watch them. If you go, keep them glued to your side at all times and do NOT let the smaller kids in the tunnels unless you want to go into a full blown panic attack like I did searching for them.

Destiny LauraJo — Google review

We decided to check this place out with our kids and they loved it! Lots of different fun exhibits for all ages. Be ready to climb, because there are tunnels and slides that go from the top to the bottom of the building! There are several huge picnic tables outside that are in a shady spot, which was a great area to eat our picnic lunch! They have a room in the farm area for mothers to feed and change their baby, which I think is great!

N W — Google review

We've done a lot of children's museums and science centers, but I think this one really is exceptional. Friendly staff. Super clean! And almost all the exhibits were in perfect working order. A wide variety of engaging exhibits. My kids are 2 and 5 and there was a lot that kept their attention for a long time! There was a large group of 5th graders there at the same time, and they also seemed very engaged. The climbing tower that goes to all 4 floors was great too.

Hot Springs & Geysers

Buildings aren't open but right behind the tourist booth they're is a watering hole. It's actually a hot spring it's warm not hot but it's private except that the road is close. But they're is no walk it's free it's clean. As long as we keep it clean. It's a must experience if your into hot springs

Lisa Gunter — Google review

Beautiful and relaxing! I wish they would have told me their was a waterfall I could access versus just floating in the water for an hour. But my husband found his as he is apparently more adventurous than I am.It was bathing suit optional. I was the only naked lady but I didn't care it felt amazing.

Kerri Lane — Google review

The experience was great! First, you spend time in the hotel foyer, which is absolutely gorgeous. It has several fireplaces you can wait by on big comfortable couches and loves seats while you wait for your shuttle. The little cafe area they have is cute as well. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly, and the customer service is top-notch. Once it was time to go, a kindly older gentleman shuttled us to the spring. When we got there, we waited until the time slot began, we were given a brief orientation as well about the hot spring. When we got inside, admittedly, it was very cold outside the water. The changing area has slight cracks in the floor leading outside (to drain all the water tracked in obviously), so it was like standing on an air conditioning vent. A simple towel on the floor fixed the issue. The water, once inside, was amazing. It was a decent size pool of hot springs, so clear and comfortable. I never wanted to get out, it was such an amazing experience. After the hour, everyone got out and changed and were shuttled back again.I learned while there apparently, you can just park at the mineral spring location and skip the shuttle and hotel part, but honestly it was such a pretty and cool experience, I'm glad I did it.

The Jefferson Pools are absolutely amazing. The water is crystal clear and very relaxing. You have to set up a reservation to soak and the front desk staff are more than willing to help. The building are the original buildings from the 1800's, so they are very rustic feeling. Overall I would give this place a 10/10. Definitely recommend it to the locals and out of towners.

Courtney Foo — Google review

We did a 4pm on a Thursday and there was only 1 other person there!!! Very nice, rustic environment. No frills but just genuine!!! The sulphur smell is present so if you don’t like the smell of sulphur stay away!!!! It’s a level 4 out of 10 of the smell. Overall great experience! Well worth the $25.00 per person! Highly recommended!!!

jerome bethel — Google review

What an amazing experience. The only thing that bothered us was the group size was too big. The warm springs are not that big and having too many couples in a group limits your ability to move around in the water.

KELLY GOULD — Google review

Need a relaxing experience? Definitely make a reservation .My husband and I had a wonderful float.! The water feels amazing, plus all the employees are super nice, even gave us a discount because it was our anniversary. We're already planning to go back.

Vilma Randolph — Google review

Relaxing and refreshing place to experience a Bath County staple. Make a reservation, busiest times are 2pm and 5pm, Fri, Sat & Sun. During the week is pretty empty and you’ll have most of the pool to yourself. They only allow a certain number of guests per hour so you have plenty of room in the pools, sometimes you’ll have to wait on the changing rooms but never very long. The checkin process can be a bit stale, but the bathhouse itself feels natural and rehabilitating. Everyone is kind and positive. I definitely recommend going in nice weather if possible, between 50-70°. Spring or fall times seem best.Water is just under 100° and comfortable. Obviously bring a swimsuit, towels are provided, and i recommend a pair of flip flops. No reason to bring anything more than a credit card to pay for entry and souvenirs if wanted. Also, bring your dog but not to the bath house, there’s room to run and explore. Bring some snacks, a picnic, a book, some music, nice days are quite relaxing here.Houses are labeled “gentlemen’s” and “Ladies” but it’s purely historic, they’re both co-Ed and basically the same experience. We did notice the gentleman’s seemed to be a slightly louder and outgoing crowd, but that may have just been coincidence. Most experiences are usually quiet and serene.Stay at the warm springs inn. Eat at the old dairy, just down the road. And relax here.

EB Explore — Google review

This place is fabulous, leaving your skin and hair soft and silky. The buildings are not beautiful, however, they are over 200 years old and adds to their character, so if you can get past the deterioration you will love it.

Connie Evans — Google review

Overall, fascinating experience. From the receptionist I called to make the booking a week prior to the in-house attendant, staff was gracious and welcoming. The in house attendant even went to the men's bath to bring extra pool noodles when our bath ran out. The rooms were clean and neat.My only annoyance was that the 3pm visit on a Sunday was loud despite the attendant asking folks politely to stay quiet to respect those who come for relaxation. I wish there had been more of a restriction on number of reservations for that time, especially with it being women only. I chose and paid for this hour to avoid children and men, aka a truly relaxing getaway hour. Instead, the crowded room spoke with normal voices which echoed and interrupted any semblance of relaxation.I recommend to ask for a time slot that has the least reservations so far.

Sania Sally J. — Google review

Worth the trip 100% I have traveled around the world and this site is just magical! The renovations are classical and historic. The mineral water cleared my cracked winter eczema skin in just 1 hour of soaking. The place is serene and healing. Just floating in the warm water is enough. Come experience for yourself.

Stephanie Grandstaff — Google review

Went on a Sunday, early afternoon. We booked ahead and expected a crowd due to the gorgeous weather the couple weeks prior. Needless to say, it was a bit crowded at first sight. But once we walked into the office we were quickly greeted by friendly faces and offered the chance to join the group that just started. We were an hour early and jumped at the chance. Looking back I would have waited, we missed some soaking time changing into our swimsuits and such. But each bath house has plenty of changing rooms right by the pools. Only negative aspects I can think of were the smell, kinda like rotten eggs since the area is so rich in sulfur, and the chill, temperatures were right around freezing and though the waters were amazingly warm any time spent out of them was eye opening. They have big fluffy towels there and pool noodles to use as well. Pool depths vary but any basic swimmer shouldn't have any issue keeping above water. I think they limit groups to 18 individuals in a pool at once which left plenty of room to find a spot for my partner and I to stretch out. Can't wait to go again, but on a day where temps hover between 45 and 60.

My experience at the geothermal spring bathhouse in Warm Springs, VA, owned by Omni Resorts, was simply amazing! The bathhouse boasts a beautiful pool of water with a comfortable temperature of 80°F, creating the perfect ambiance for relaxation and rejuvenation. I was particularly delighted with the thoughtful addition of a small waterfall-like area for couples, allowing them to enjoy a romantic soak together.About the Place:The bathhouse's attention to detail impressed me; they provided everything needed for a delightful time in the springs. With a generous 50-minute bath time, I had plenty of opportunity to unwind and take in the tranquil surroundings. The inclusion of floating noodles, towels, and small changing rooms ensured a seamless and comfortable experience for all guests. The location of the bathhouse is another highlight, offering a scenic view of the river, adding to the overall charm of the place. I had a truly enjoyable and relaxing time at the Omni Resorts geothermal spring bathhouse, and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a soothing escape in a picturesque setting. 🛁🌿🌊

Pratik Naik — Google review

Absolute hidden gem. Not too many of these public natural bathing pools kind of places open to the public on the east side of the USA. The water temp was not hot but a relaxing body-temp and only faintly smelled of sulfur. It was about 30F outside so a fair amount of steam was rising. The cost per person not staying at the Omni Homestead is $30 for a 50 minute soak. There are two pools: "Gentleman's" and "Ladies'" I got there early and they let me in early for some extra time. The first part of the day is mixed adult clothed in the "Gentleman's" pool. The 3pm-6pm time range is clothing optional separated by genders in the two different pools. There are private changing rooms but not enough to keep your stuff in if the time slot is full. I believe they max out at 20 people by reservations which you need to have to get the time you want. There are hooks outside to hang your clothes. I recommend bringing a bag to keep your stuff together and out of the steam. They provide towels and pool noodles. The water is nearly uniformly about 5 feet deep. I could have stayed in there all day soaking, so relaxing! There are no heaters in the changing rooms so on a cold day it gets quite cold when wet and naked! Be sure to check out the overflow to get a back massage from the water running out of the pool into a small creek outside. You're still in the building but you can see outside. I would definitely visit here again!

Charles Ragan — Google review

Very interesting and healthy experience! There was an orientation and information before going to the pool. The water temperature is said 98 Fahrenheit (warm not hot) very well organized facility. I would like to go again. Nobody knows why one of the changing room number is 9 and 1/2 (see attached photo).

Sibel Ozturk — Google review

Such a calming space for some relaxation soaking time. I'd highly recommend this place whether you go by yourself or with others. Make sure you make reservations ahead of time. I went in January when it was snowing faintly and the water still kept me very warm while in the pool. So I wouldn't mind going again during the off-season when it's a bit colder out. It's definitely worth visiting at least once!

Great experience. The host was friendly, accommodating and super knowledgeable. The bath was great and the session was very well organized! Don’t forget to make a reservation and bring an empty bottle to take some of the water with you 😉

Gianna — Google review

A delightful afternoon spent letting the waters flow over us. Not as hot as other springs (thus the name), but still quite calm. A slight sulfur aroma, but pretty tame compared to places with higher mineral content.

master oftheflesh — Google review

We had a nice experience and will come back in the future. It’s $30 for 50min dip. We went to the men’s bath and the water is 6 feet deep on average, they provide noodles to everyone so don’t worry if you don’t know how to swim. You can also stay close to the stairs. The water is 94degrees, not hot but warm. There are 10 different minerals in that water, we felt so relaxed after! They provide towels, and you don’t need slippers just bring your swimsuit. There are dressing rooms. They’ll ask you to take your jewelry. I’d recommend arriving 15min earlier , there’s free parking but limited spots.

Drive-through safari with free-roaming elk, gazelle, zebra & other exotic fauna, plus a petting zoo.

Was a lot of fun, great family day. Only negative is if you don’t buy a lot of buckets you will run out in the middle of the route leaving animals towards the middle/end without any food so definitely buy a lot of buckets. Two of us had two each and clearly wasn’t enough and they don’t have anywhere along the trail where you could purchase more. Otherwise we will be back for sure.

Katie Bignall — Google review

Absolutely amazing. Yes there was a wait but once we got it, it was amazing. Careful the animals will take your kids food buckets. We just didn't let the animals eat out of the bucket. We had a amazing time. Would totally recommend. So much fun. Loved it.

C Huff — Google review

Wonderful experience! Ticket gets you in all day even if you leave and come back. Staff handling animals were great. Gift shop employees seemed to be having an off day. Make sure to buy plenty of food for the animal feeding. Makes it an experience you won't soon forget! Pack lunch you can eat in car or at picnic tables. Food is overpriced. Can't wait to take my grandchildren.

Joanna Marks — Google review

What fun! What an adventure! A beautiful open reserve packed with beautiful animals who approach your vehicle allowing you to feed and photograph them. Allow about an hour just for the drive-through because of traffic jams caused by the road being blocked by animals. NOTE: Actually read the rules on the brochure and share them with all passengers for a safer and more enjoyable experience.

Lois Silver — Google review

Tons of great animals, many of which you can feed or touch! Really good for families. Car or tram options give you more freedom as well as safety. It was really fun and my family enjoyed it a lot. 3 stars because the buckets of food are expensive, especially with the high price of admission, but overall really great and I do recommend it

Patrick Sims — Google review

Wow! This was an amazing experience! My family and I loved being able to drive through and see, pet and feed all the amazing animals. There was an amazing selection of animals. Once you pay you can take your time and go through, which just added to the wow factor. My family and I all had an amazing time! They also have a gift shop and safari village you can walk through, however we say the safari drive through was the best part.

John Wingard — Google review

We had a great time at the Safari park. Tons of animals and interactive with them during the drive through tour. It was raining but no one has control over that. The staff were friendly and helpful with any questions. My only suggest would be having a sign about half way through the drive letting you know. We were concerned about having enough feed for the animals at the end. Started to ration but we didn’t want to have left over at the end.

Joshua Sheffield — Google review

Love this place. The animals were well taken care of. We even got to see two baby goats be born. The animals has personality, they were so funny and we really enjoyed it. Take the family. Even the rain didn't stop us.

Natasha Smith — Google review

Awesome place!! My kids didn't want to leave. I wouldn't feed from the bucket if your comfortable using your hands. They will snag the whole food bucket or throw food everywhere. All the animals were super gentle with the exception of one angry zebra. The village was awesome too!! Lots of animals, really unique place, the giraffe was really calm and let us pet him while feeding. I didn't post pictures of the drive through, those are all rather hilarious videos. It's definitely something to check out

Jacob Burrell — Google review

I loved it, you can have communication with the animals, touch them, buy food and give them!!!! I recommend it, it will be an unforgettable and unique experience!!!On the other hand, the animals are malnourished, they need more attention and care, that alone makes me sad!! remember that animals come into contact with your car they can scratch your car so don't get mad and enjoy

K-r3ly Monterrosa — Google review

Such a fun place! The Animals will totally knock the feed buckets out of your hands , hang on with your best ninja grip. Towards the end there are buffalo, you might want to ration your food if you'd like to see them close up. Nice gift shop and other things as well. Last entry for the day is 4pm.

Mary Day — Google review

This was our third visit there. The first time we went by ourselves. The second time was with our daughter and grandchildren. This is just such a WONDERFUL, FUN place!!!! I was determined not to lose a bucket this time (would've been a first) but, no, I couldn't hold on. We just love this place!!!! Plus there is the walk-through zoo where you can get up close and personal, too. This is a fun place for everyone !This is must-go-to place!!!

Lori Parker — Google review

My visit to the Virginia Safari Park was an absolute delight. At $30 per person, it may seem a bit pricey at first, but the experience is well worth it. The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the drive-through safari, where I had the opportunity to feed friendly animals up close from the comfort of my own vehicle. One tip I'd offer is don’t use all the animal feed at the beginning, so that you can enjoy feeding the animals throughout the entire drive. It's a small detail, but it made a big difference in prolonging the enjoyment of the experience.Additionally, the safari park section offered a chance to see even more animals and birds, adding further value to the visit. From start to finish, the Virginia Safari Park provided a memorable and immersive wildlife encounter that I highly recommend to anyone in the area. It's definitely worth the drive and cost for a day filled with unforgettable moments and close encounters with fascinating creatures.Kids, in particular, will love the thrill of feeding the animals right from the car windows, making it an experience they will cherish it for years to come !!

Santhosh Reddy — Google review

The Virginia Safari park is a story maker. We always leave here with a funny story. They have made wonderful improvements to include a cafe in the walk thru area which includes a Kangaroo walk about, an apiary, a giraffe feeding station, and many other fun animals. There are plenty of spots to sit and stroller/wheelchairs/etc will go smoothly on paths. The drive thru part is a treasure. You can roll down your windows have your purchased feed bucket ready and enjoy the hilarity. It does cost 26.95 per adult, 25.95 for senior, 18.95 for children 2-12 yrs.

S Gomez — Google review

My son and I had a lot of fun yesterday. Great place to spend about 3-4 hours or so. We bought 2 buckets and sparingly gave the animals food. They eat very well. Some will reach in to the car for the bucket! Will definitely return.

Joe Michaud — Google review

Had an amazing time!!! The ride through Safari was so much fun & exciting. It was intimidating at first because some animals would stick their heads all the way in the car to feed. Some more gently than others. Just like humans, it was fun to experience the different personalities. Some lamas & emus were the most aggressive. Nothing too bad but you have to be careful or they will make you lose your grip on food bucket. The deer & bulls seem to be the most mild mannered. All in all such a great experience! The petting zoo was Awesome too! The grounds are kept up very well & the animals seem to be so comfortable and relaxed in their habitats. They were not shy at all. The monkeys were a pure joy to see them playing like no one was watching. I totally recommend going & taking your family. You will be in awe!

Waynett W — Google review

Amazing Safari Experience! It was so amazing to drive through the park and feed animals. Such an interactive experience we have never had before. Beats any zoo experience. The walk through part was very nice as well. Everything was tidy, well organized. There was also a wonderful place with parrots where you can feed them and they land on your shoulder/hand. My son loved it. We came on the weekend and there were very few people there.

Don't hesitate, it's worth the money! This park is so much fun. Buy lots of food buckets, skip the giraffe feeding (too expensive and the giraffes didn't show). The animals are beautiful and friendly... llamas chasing you in the car is a pretty surreal experience. The parakeet aviary was great too. Our kids loved it, but it's a fun day even for just adults. I'd go by myself just to laugh like that again. Absolutely recommend

The safari park is so fun to do, especially with kids. The animals are mostly gentle and it's hilarious how they try and get the food in the buckets! You better hold on to it tight, and watch out for those ostriches. They can be a little aggressive. Loved the little birds, they are so colorful. You need to purchase the budgee sticks to feed them. They land all over you and they are so beautiful! The other animals are amazing as well. You will have a blast!

The Virginia Safari Park has EASILY become our new favorite family fun spot! Our 2 year old thinks it is absolutely beyond magical! The animals are all so beautiful! We had never been before until they opened up for the season this year and we are beyond happy that we came! We ended up buying the season passes and make an hour+ drive without a second thought!Thank you for having such an amazing park where we can make memories that will last a lifetime!

Kaitlyn Elizabeth — Google review

I got so much more than I expected. There were many animals in the drive-through. It is a very interesting terrain to drive and animals are everywhere. Don't use all your animal feed at the beginning as there are animals throughout the drive. Then there is the safari park where you walk through to see more animals that are penned. Access is so great, you can get so close to the animals. We had a very enjoyable visit. One of the best parks of this type we have been to. You will enjoy.

Marsha Lance — Google review

My family and I absolutely love it here! The animals were active and looked healthy. This may seem pricey but is worth the money!

Ashley Jordan — Google review

Had such a wonderful time with my family. I can’t wait to come back! The price is so very much worth it and affordable. Will probably get a season pass!

Sarah Roberts — Google review

We absolutely loved our time at the park!! 🤩(we were visiting family in VA from MN) Our grandsons(8,7&6) really enjoyed everything too!😃 It was so fun to feed the animals through the window of our van! 🫎🦓🦌🦬🐂🐐Getting to feed the giraffes was amazing! 🦒It has been a long time since we laughed so hard! We went through twice! The gift shop was also great!

Kim H — Google review

Highly recommend!!! The up close experience with the animals is beyond words. Be warned, as soon as you enter the gate the animals waiting will sweet talk you then steal your bucket. Protect your bucket!!! The happy and highly well cared for animals you see is definitely worth it!

We had a great long weekend at the Homestead. Service was incredible, food was delicious, and drinks were plentiful. The history and character of the property is everywhere and really added to the experience. We also enjoyed a soak in the warm springs and a round of sporting clays at the gun club. One note, the renovation has progressed really well but isn’t complete yet. We didn’t have a dresser in our room, which was a little strange. I hope those will be arriving soon.

I have been visiting The Homestead for years and it is one of my favorite places. Most recently we stayed at The Homestead in early May 2022. The resort is undergoing a much needed major renovation. The rooms had been looking "tired" for a while and the rest of the hotel has fallen into disrepair. I am glad that Omni is investing in this beautiful historic property to hopefully bring it back to the high standards many of the guests are accustomed to! If you are considering visiting The Homestead for the first time I encourage you to wait until the renovations are completed. During our recent stay, we received wonderful service from the staff members. Two individuals stood out. Deborah at the front desk was very friendly and her warm welcome was a wonderful start to our vacation. Andrew the bellhop was absolutely incredible. Even though he did not help us directly he always remembered who we were when we passed him in the lobby and he went out of his way to make sure we had everything that we needed! Andrew went above and beyond to make our stay memorable and he deserves to be recognized for his impressive level of customer service. We are looking forward to returning when the renovations are completed and hope that our review will return to a five-star rating.

While the staff is doing all they can, the hotel is undergoing a massive renovation and there are many services that are unavailable and the experience isn't what you would expect, and there is still a healthy resort fee charge. We did enjoy a nice recently renovated room, the guided hike was a fun experience, and the spa is terrific. If you go during the renovation, ask upfront what is available and if it is really ready, such as on property food or if you should make arrangements off property. Bring your own food and drink!

Jennifer Reimert — Google review

We were there during labor day weekend and we have had a great time. The property is beautiful and well maintained. All staff members were friendly and helpful. We have had breakfast and dinner buffet during our visit and it was wonderful. They have a lot of activities whole day for kids and adults. It is a little bit pricey but it's worth to spend your hard earned money here.

panit Rattanasarn — Google review

It has been a family tradition for a long time to come here but it is been about 7 years. With the hundred million plus renovations, expectations were high. But they were not met. The kids enjoyed the pools and the ice skating. But for a week that is about all that they could do. I don't know if it's short staffed or what, but almost nothing was working or available. We had a large party and everyone that made spa reservations. They happen to have lost them, so many people did not get the services they wanted.Room service is only for breakfast.About 25% of what's in the arcade actually work. All the renovated the rooms weren't as clean as you would want for a luxury resort with hairs on the bathroom floor, etc.The food was pretty good.Anything that you want to do or that you would ask for expect the answer to be no. Whether it was an activity or a bottle of wine off the menu, chances are it's not going to happen. The highs were in the upper 40s the entire week we were there so it was very disappointing that they couldn't make or have snow for any snow activities. We actually spent a lot of time off campus in town so that helped to add some to some things to do. The first night we drove in we were kind of tired and all reservations were booked and long waits for dinner. So we ordered a head to take out from the Jefferson taproom and they got about 60% of the order right. The people are friendly and they do try to take care of you, but it's certainly was a challenge to feel like a relaxing, luxury vacation. The kids enjoyed the kids camp while we had a spa day and since I was there 7 years ago there were no upgrades, the steam rooms were broken, they didn't have any spa sandals available, and it didn't feel like anything had been clean and almost as long. With that said, it was still a relaxing experience with the hot springs pool and everything else you can get with a day pass. I'm not saying this place is bad, just that it's not nearly what it used to be. Even with all the renovations. I believe most of the renovations were infrastructure and exterior so it did look nice from the outside.

BOG — Google review

The location for this hotel is amazing. You have the hot springs to enjoy and a ski area as well within a short shuttle ride. The building is very impressive and you can feel the history as you're walking the hallways. There is a large number of activities for the whole family to enjoy. The check in staff was very nice. We got offered champagne and our son got a little care package that included a few snacks and a teddy bear. The rooms in our part of the hotel have definitely seen better days. The shower was weird and we didn't have hot water in the evening. It would be fine in the morning. We did ice skating and outdoor pool on the same day and there was only one person working both. He was clearly overwhelmed but did the best he could with renting out skates to people. That meant he was unable to replenish the towels in the pool locker rooms.Despite mediocre room, I would definitely return to enjoy the hot springs pools, ice skating and skiing.

Ivana Kayes — Google review

Beautiful resort with TONS of history. The staff is friendly and ready to help with whatever you need. Several dinning and bar options on site as well as activities for your whole family; golf, falconry, horse back riding, skeet shooting, hiking and many more. If the spa is more your speed, they have a full service spa with heated pools and a mineral bath. All of these great amenities come at a price as The Homestead is on the very expensive side. Bring some extra cash so you can tip their wonderful staff as they help you throughout your stay. But with the panoramic views of the mountains, wonderful staff and all of the activities; you should give The Homestead a visit.

Stayed here over the long weekend. Hotel is going through a big renovation (which is good). The grounds were amazing and I can’t wait to see what it looks like when it’s all done. Big shout out to Brian, the Cascades Gorge Hike tour guide. He was engaging, full of knowledge, funny, and genuinely loves what he does. He even stopped to wave to us from his car while we were walking through the town of Hot Springs. He deserves a pay raise!

Joseph Dudkiewicz — Google review

Stellar service, beautiful views, relaxing retreat with plenty to do. The spa is amazing, and the rooms are comfortable. Don't get hung up in negative reviews. Yes, they are renovating sections of the resort. It's historic! And beautiful. So enjoy it, but be sure to read all current online notices if that's going to be an issue for you. Do yourself a favor and have a spa day.

Melissa Ellison — Google review

I had played golf at the Old Course and the Cascades both of these courses are time less classes. We loved the Jefferson’s restaurant the steak was prefect the pizza at Woody’s was some of the best I’ve ever had. The pool was beautiful we had a cabana and the service was great the food was amazing it was a all around great time. The only thing I would like to be different was when I was playing a game of croquet a bunch of little black bugs were swarming in my face when trying to play which cut the game a little short. I love the Homestead this is a family favorite and next year is going to be so much fun.

Cole Meyers — Google review

While traveling through the area we booked two nights here to stay with our toddler and infant. I think that the grounds and hotel are immaculate and absolutely stunning. The food is also great and staff friendly. Everything about the property is wonderful but for value I think the property is overpriced considering how expensive all activities and food are on the premises. Wonderful place to visit, but overpriced in my opinion even in this category of lodging and travel.

Stephen King — Google review

It’s difficult to get to, but well worth it! This resort has so much history and is so scenic and gorgeous. We did falconry (Linda did an incredible job!), visited the warm springs, played lots of golf and spent two days at the spa. It was truly fabulous and well worth it! Definitely go!

Sharon Booth — Google review

We enjoyed the fresh air and the hot spring offerings. Spent a day at the spa and used the newly added waterslide. It was a very relaxing 3 days. The food was just average and the town didn’t have much to offer for out of the resort dining.

Elizabeth Tong — Google review

TLDR: Gorgeous but just way too expensive for what you get to be honest…So beautiful! Great location, excellently preserved and maintained, and lots of activities to choose from! Everything was very clean and the staff were all friendly and helpful! DEFINITELY TRY THE HOT SPRINGS!With that in mind, this place will absolutely HEMORRHAGE your wallet. For a buffet style breakfast (2 adults) it was $90! Even their cheapest restaurant (Woody’s) ran us a $150 bill for 2 mid quality entrees and a drink each. Food isn’t all that great to be honest, but they know people will pay the high prices because it’s a captive market with the few other dining options in the surrounding area. For the price of everything here, I hate to say it’s absolutely NOT worth the money. Unless you have a lot of disposable income, this place will eat you alive!

Nikki C. — Google review

My group had a really nice experience at the resort. The staff was lovely, everyone was super nice and accommodating and if not for one problem I would give them 5 stars. On the last day of our stay our beds were never made, which was odd cause we were out most of the day. And every other day they had made our beds and tidied up the room. We then later searched the room for a couple things that we couldn’t find. We all chucked it up to misplacing things around the room and believed we would find it when we packed up.When we packed up our stuff we looked all over the room, pulling up couch cushions, stripping the linen, everything. We could not find our stuff.Because of the price of our items we decided it wasn’t really worth making a scene, and joked that a ghost stole our items. The items that were lost were a deodorant, body wash, a bathing suit bottom, and a pair of earrings. The earrings were not expensive so it’s not that big of a deal. The odd thing is the more expensive jewelry wasn’t touched.Overall watch your things, utilize the safe, very odd experience lol. I don’t want to completely blame the staff, cause who knows maybe it really was a ghost, who knows.Besides that everything else was perfect, great food, comfortable beds, nice ambience! I also loved our waiters throughout the stay, especially the one on the last night!

Rachel Kalusin — Google review

The staff is fabulous. Customer service is off the chart. The food is good but pricey. The water pressure in the shower is weak and the hot water never got very hot. I understand the hotel is going through a major renovation and hope that we can return once it is done. I would definitely recommend taking the historic tour given by Mr. Anthony Pusey.

Jeff Postans — Google review

We just celebrated the most amazing Thanksgiving at The Homestead! The staff is incredible…you feel like you’re visiting family. We loved the beautiful holiday decor(and lighting of the Christmas tree); the hot springs, skeet shooting, hiking, the historic tour (Anthony, you brought this tour to life…thank you!)…and the delicious Thanksgiving dinner in the Ballroom. There is not one thing we would change! We will be back! Can’t wait to see the completed renovation. Thank you, Homestead❤️

Dee Brindle — Google review

Absolutely beautiful hotel!!! Really enjoyed the warm spring pool at the spa. Our 2 nights we went to dinner, we had excellent service and quality food served by Gill. Falconry 101 was amazing. The only thing we did not understand was the elevator floor numbering system. We are sure that will be taken care of with the continued renovations going on there.

Cathy Taylor — Google review

We were expecting more and better for the price we paid 💵A lot of construction 🚧 , outdated, cheap fixes, and lots of little details that tell you that this place is selling “luxury” but far from the luxury. The only luxurious part of staying at Omni is the price $$$.Not even a continental breakfast, the dining options are poor, the room decor is undone, and one out of two working elevators. We did enjoy our stay but were disappointed about the cost and the options 🙁

Yunga Queenopolis — Google review

Planned 3 day honeymoon with our pup. Hotel is SO old. It’s literally falling apart. Even the parts which weren’t going active renovation were breaking down. Staff is professional. Housekeeping left carts out in the hallway for the entire day. One room’s door was open for all three days - where they keep supplies like clean towels and toilet paper. It was so gross - they literally keep it on the floor. All of this is VERY inappropriate for the price you are paying. All the good is overpriced for the quality. Also, a couple of staff members told me that there are a lot of fake reviews to purposefully keep the ratings high. They will do a lot of things without telling you. For example, they said all cars are valet only but still charged us a $40 fee on every night for our final bill.Paid for a $150 pedicure, come to find out they don’t do gel. Also it’s hella boring if you’re not an owner/have your own club house. From research, it appears this was a prestigious hotel in the past. Now the upscale treatment has moved to the owners and I feel they take advantage of guests by having them stay in the main resort. One pro is all the staff is very professional.Do not waste your time and money!

Mira Ali — Google review

A common problem for most resorts post covid is staffing.. That said, even with the obvious challenges this remotely located resort is experiencing the level of service that was given by the staff was top-notch! The hotel recently got a facelift with all the rooms being remodeled. The golf courses were absolutely spectacular as we played both courses in two days and we couldn't have been more pleased with their condition and the level of service given by the courses employees. True Southern hospitality all the way.. Sadly we had to return back home to San Diego after a 3 night whirlwind adventure but we will be back!

I came to The Homestead many times when I was younger with my parents and finally had the pleasure of bringing my family. This is our second Thanksgiving and this beautiful destination just gets better and better. It is truly a magical place, the location is beautiful, the staff are so accommodating and delightful. The breakfast in the dining room is amazing, especially the homemade donuts. We spend our days hiking, riding horses, swimming in the indoor pool. The falconry class was such a unique experience and our guide was so knowledgeable. There are endless activities to fill your time! We end our days with a drink by the fire in the cozy great hall and a movie in the theater. Thanksgiving at The Homestead is a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season. To all the staff who work endlessly, thank you for all that you do to make The Homestead such a joyful and magical destination. We appreciate you and are so grateful!

Sarah Yarborough — Google review

This place is absolutely gorgeous and extremely well maintained. I’m glad to see that the renovations of this property are bringing it back to life. I had the pleasure of taking a class in falconry and was pleasantly surprised on the experience I had. Another thing I got to experience was a horse drawn carriage ride through the woods on a carriage that’s over 200 years old. The coachman was extremely friendly, professional, and knowledgeable on the history of the property and surrounding properties so as an added bonus we got a history lesson on the ride, would highly recommend this as well. The amount of activities to do here are endless we barely had time to scratch the surface on everything they had to offer. If you only have time for one thing I would recommend a day at the spa while enjoying the hot springs because that’s a truly one of a kind experience. The staff at the resort were truly exceptional and really understood what the definition of hospitality means. Without a doubt I will be returning here in the the near future.

Joey Bechara — Google review

We enjoyed our stay at the Homestead in one of the 2 queen-bed suites last week. The hotel was rather quiet midweek so we did not experience any of the staffing issues that other reviewers mentioned. The service was wonderful and very professional. Champagne at check in was appreciated. The new decor is lovely in the grand lobby and other areas, but I agree with another reviewer that the new designer seemed to avoid the traditional Virginia elegant look in the West Wing hallway. (I also took a photo of it as the other reviewer did in disbelief). I hope someone will reconsider and change the carpeting to something lovely like before or at least try to coordinate it with the wallpaper. Of course this would not stop me from staying there again. The hotel historic tour was great with Anthony who genuinely loves this hotel and the renovation of the theater is beautiful. We enjoyed the Audubon dining room with the wonderful pianist and food. Oscar, our server, was so much fun! There is a connection to the gorgeous outdoors even while inside on cold days with firepits and blankets on the front porch and fireplaces burning in the lobby. The large windows in the Jefferson dining room/bar areas overlooking the beautiful back grounds are stunning. We are looking forward to returning there to see the Christmas tree and decorations in December. We appreciate the Omni "rescuing" this grand historic and beautiful resort but hope that the gray-black design that current hotels exhibit does not take over this lovely place.

The National D-Day Memorial in Bedford is a remarkable tribute to the valiant soldiers who lost their lives during the Normandy invasion in WWII. This museum features a magnificent arch, reflecting pool, and gardens and offers guided tours that provide visitors with an educational experience about the historic battle. Moreover, one can also see Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest Estate at this site. Although there was no water due to the season, it still offers a realistic perspective of storming the shores.

This place is wonderful stop to remember and appreciate the freedom we have today. Due to the season there wasn’t any water which gives it an even more real experience to storming the shores but wonderful nonetheless.

One of the most impressive sites I've ever seen! I hope it stays that way. I got more than my monies worth. I just walked around and took many pictures. Next time I hope to bring my family members with me and do a group tour. Thank you, VA, for this beautiful memorial to our fallen soldiers! The drive there was beautiful, too, but drive carefully because some of the roads have sharp curves.

This place is much larger than expected, mostly outdoors. We did our tour with Joe on his golf cart. He was terrific at explaining some of the behind the scenes facts we hadn't heard. We had little kids with us so the golf cart turned out to be great fun for them. Our 9 yr old did understand a lot of the tour too. It's hard to comprehend the extravagant losses felt by the tiny town of Bedford, but this tour helped greatly. Worth the $$. Ideal to go on an overcast or somewhat cool day!

SPECTACULAR!!!! Such an incredible place to honor and pay tribute and learn more about D-Day and WW2. Also, beautifully designed and surrounded by beauty. Happy to pay to enter to support this amazing place. Our 3rd visit as it changes with the seasons- this visit- gorgeous cherry blossoms. The 4415 Luminaries in December for each who gave their life at the D-Day invasion was sobering and beautiful. Also, the volunteer tour guides are excellent. A must visit place! A beautifully conceived and executed memorial can be missed without knowledgeable and thoughtful docents; The National D-Day Memorial did not lack in any way today during our tour. If you come, take time to take the tour and take time to linger. It is well worth it.

Worth a stop if you’re in the area, but be advised that the price of admission is a bit steep. Our family took advantage of the Blue Star summer admission and got it for free, but we would have been disappointed if we paid full price. My favorite feature is actually the bathrooms, which are structured to have an exterior built like a German pillbox and integrated into the beach landing scene.

As a Gulf War era Vet, visiting this hallowed site was a must see the next time I was in Virginia...that time was today. I spent nearly 3 hours walking, looking, pausing, reflecting and a silent prayer. Thank you to all who played a part in its creation, however even more...thank you to those who sacrificed and returned from such an ordeal unlike any other.

Beautiful memorial to honor the people who died serving our country! You do have to pay to see the memorial. They also have a small museum and gift shop and do tours.

Victoria — Google review

Perhaps the most informative and amazing memorial of its kind that I have ever seen. Do NOT pass this up- I did for two years, not realizing that this is THE NATIONAL D-DAY MEMORIAL. if you have a desire to learn more about Operation OVERLORD and its participants, give yourself at least a half day to read all the plaques. Better yet, take a lunch ( or bundle up!) and spend the day...I promise you, you won't be disappointed. There is an entry fee ($10-$12? - when you get through the gates, you will wonder why it isn't more -), so plan accordingly.

Following FiveStar (Joy) — Google review

This is a first class memorial that is both educational and respectful of the sacrifices of those involved in all aspects of the Normandy invasion. The grounds and monuments are beautifully maintained, and designed to tell the invasion’s story. Our guide, Rick, was excellent and provided our group with a not only the facts, but many background stories surrounding the preparation and invasion. There is a well stocked gift store that carries a wide variety of educational items at very reasonable prices. I highly recommend taking a guided tour or you will miss out on a lot of material. A guided tour should take 2 to 3 hours.

Edward Rone — Google review

I recommend having the guided tour. We did this and our guide was so knowledgeable. There were so many things I didn't know that he shared. Reasonable price. I was a little disappointed that the tour began 15mins before the start time the gate attendee told us but we were able to catch up pretty quickly.

Natasha M — Google review

Beautiful during spring with trees blossoming . It was not crowded and was a beautiful day to take in so much history and read about the sacrifice brave men and women gave for our country . Well worth the visit .

While traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway, I went to see this. It was a very moving experience. If you enjoy World War II history, stop in. I took the tour, and it ended up as a private tour since it was just the guide and myself. My guide was Twila. She was very knowledgeable and patient with me. She has been giving tours for several years. The sculpture is very moving. I highly recommend a visit to this Memorial.

Absolutely Beautiful. Worth The Look. Very Quiet And Peaceful. Inside the bridge you will find much symbols and writings of love from many different couples. Usually this would be considered vandalism but I think it goes along with the theme that "Virginia is for Lovers." Thus I think it actually compliments the whole Love Bridge Idea.

Thomas — Google review

A nice and place to stop by and cool down at the river. There is no transit through the bridge, so it is easy to enjoy. Kind of sad that it is all covered in graffiti on the inside, but at the same time, I feel it gives it some personality. Restrooms (port-a-potty) available. Plenty of parking. Great for picnics. Let’s keep VIRGINIA clean and pick up after we are done. There are bears in the area.

Stunningly gorgeous and less than a minute off the highway. If you’re traveling I64, there’s no reason not to stop and see this beautiful gem. We passed it and kept seeing it on Google maps and stopped in once. Now I stop every time.

Trey Burwell — Google review

This was an unusual covered bridge with an arch in the middle. There is a lot of graffiti which kind of distracts from the covered bridge but I did find myself looking for older dates. The oldest I found was 1968.Nice parking lot and the area was very clean. Fun detour only a couple of miles off I-64.

SL B — Google review

Nice historical sight to visit. Enjoyed viewing the architecture and the use of a tree to spell the word “Love”. Well worth the time to stop if you are in the area. I would recommend using the woods if necessary…the on site port-a-john’s were pretty nasty.

Donald Johnson Jr — Google review

No excuses for missing this beautiful bridge that is not even one mile off the Interstate. Constructed of hand-hewn timber in 1835 for the James River Kanawha Turnpike Corporation. The bridge remained in active public use until 1929.In 1953, the bridge was reconditioned and the land purchased for this lovely park. Portable toilets, picnic benches and lighting. It's lovely and well worth a quick stop on your journey near the Virginia / West Virginia border.

Bruce K. — Google review

A nice leg stretcher, right off the Interstate, Humpback Bridge is an easy on and off distraction on a long drive. At the time we visited children were playing in the river below, and unfortunately trash cans were overflowing, as well as there were a lot of bugs. Still worth the stop!

Pamela Donnelly — Google review

It has a nice park with picnic tables. I was there on a Sunday in February and there were still quite a few people in and out. I could imagine it's fairly busy in the summer so plan accordingly.

Synergy Web Systems — Google review

Haven't been here in many many years, and the only difference is the graffiti on the bridge and the "v" of "LOVE" using the tree is gone, but now the "v" is shrubbery in front of the tree. If you get a chance, when the water is high enough, swing from the ropes under the bridge and float down in the water. Nice little park also.

Mike Bilenki — Google review

One of my favorite spots! Was surprised that the "V" in "LOVE" was replaced our last visit with small shrubs, but it's still a beautiful spot! Highly recommend!!!

Wendi Lou — Google review

Nice little stop on the way to take my son to Goshen to work at youth camp,.. The bridge was amazing. The little park that came with was cool. Wish there was a little bit more information at the location to let us know about the bridge and it's importance....

James Staubach — Google review

The bridge is historic, but the graffiti isn't and it's all over the inside...the porta potties are disgusting and the "love photo op" no longer has the V because the tree has been cut. It's so sad to see a significant historic bridge, the last of its kind fall into such terrible condition

Madame Tulipia — Google review

It is a beautiful piece of history, a short drive off I-64. A nice small park, with a few tables, and parking very close to the bridge.

Lake

Nature & Parks

Smith Mountain Lake is a vast reservoir spanning over 20,600 acres that was established in 1963. It is a popular destination for water activities such as boating, water skiing, and fishing. Visitors can also take a ride on the Virginia Dare ship which is an imitation of the side wheeler ship from the 19th century. The lake offers clean and comfortable rooms for accommodation to relax after spending long hours in aquatic fun.

SML is a beautiful, clean, large lake with fantastic mountain views around it. Gets busy on the weekends in the summer but other times it's very peaceful. Folks pull a lot of nice fish out as well.

Doug Light — Google review

So peaceful and relaxing!!!Tahoe of the East for sure! We are looking forward to going back!

Ronda Miller — Google review

Love it love it love it. We took my tank top wearing brother and we still had a great time.Update- back for 2021 over Labor Day. Same brother. New tank top. Same results. Great time.

Matt Logan — Google review

Great place to vacation. Water is cold and the fish are big. The local Ice cream boat meets you in the middle of the lake for a nice cold treat.

Rodney Beltz — Google review

We stayed here this past weekend for our family reunion and loved it! The rooms were clean and comfortable, perfect to relax in after a long day on the lake. The kids loved jumping off the dock and hanging out in the water all day! Liz made sure we had towels and clean sheets when needed and was just a great host in general! Can't walt to come back!

This place is super awesome,Amazing place for family and friends. There is only one thing, The life guards bother too much, they are super annoyingOther than that this place is fantastic and great getaway place!

Erick Saavedra — Google review

We love coming to Smith Mountain Lake every summer with the family. We rent a different house each time. We make a point of finding homes that allow dogs as our dogs really enjoy the water as much as the humans do. The lake can be a bit busy with boats and the wakes they create, especially on summer weekends, but that is to be expected. Lovely views, lots of inlets to kayak in, places to fish. We enjoy it because it’s nice to just come and relax and decompress.

Michela Worthington-Adams — Google review

We rented a houseboat from Parrot Cove and loved our 4 day vacation. It was much needed down time and we LOVED the few days we spent there.

Damian Grihalva — Google review

A perfect place to relax and unwind.... several marinas to dock your boats, there are lots of places to stay.

Nikki Sandoval — Google review

Beautiful place to visit! Quiet town, kinda tucked away. If you wanna visit somewhere that's really a getaway from society, SML is perfect!

Abby Rollins — Google review

Clean, fun and beautiful lake! Tons of rental options.I personally like renting a pontoon. It's awesome to ride around the lake and pick a quiet spot to get out on your floats. Definitely a local charm..

Danielle Sydnor — Google review

I started coming to this lake when I was about 12 years old. We came back every year until I was 18. All I can say is it's speechless and breathtaking..the views always change and every season its more and more beautiful 😍. I now have a house on the lake there and I must say it's my Heaven on earth. The people are extremely welcoming even though we see thousands of new faces every day. The summers are packed on the water you can hear laughs all over. The nights are so peaceful.

Heritage museum

Museums

The Virginia Museum of Transportation is a former freight depot that showcases a variety of planes, trains, and cars. Visitors can take an interactive walk along the David R. & Susan S. Goode Railwalk, which tells the story of the railroad industry in the region. Inside, there are exhibits featuring model trains and an impressive car collection. Outside, visitors can climb aboard real trains and planes.

Our family really liked exploring all the transportation vehicles in the rail yard. The other big hit was the model train exhibit of Roanoke. A great little museum. Definitely worth a couple hours if you're in Roanoke.

Monica Faucette — Google review

This is a great way to kill a couple hours or more if weather prevents you from doing more outdoor activities. The museum has a nice mixture of different types of transportation on display, but not a lot of each. They have real planes, trains, and automobiles on display here just not a lot. What they do have is very interesting and unique. The model ships and boats are exceptional and displayed well for everyone to see. There’s a simulation plane that you climb in the cabin, sit, and look around. The rail yard is really impressive with 3 locomotives that you can go out and look at if you choose. The automobile inventory, thought limited, is still impressive and worth checking out.

Derik Austin Matthews — Google review

Really amazing place with many interactive displays. Fun for all ages, but not a lot of kids running wild. Not too crowded.

Stan Arnold — Google review

Very exciting visit today in the Virginia Museum of Transportation here in Roanoke. A really fascinating journey back in time to learn about the history of railways. 🚂⏳️ Beside restored locomotives and railroad cars, there are also some old airplanes and vintage cars. 🛻🚙🛩 So much to see here, that the time I had (around 1,5 hrs) was far not enough. Therefore I recommend to plan more time to be able to see and experience everything in all details. I did really enjoy the visit. 💯👍🏻

Krzysiek Olecha — Google review

This was our first visit and very enjoyable. We were brought here by friends that live in the area and had a great day. There is plenty to see and spend the day checking it all out. Great car collection, model trains, real trains outside, air planes, and much more. $10 entrance fee, $8 60 and over. Well worth the visit and you can spend a lot of time if you look closely at every display.

Philip Keithley — Google review

Really fun museum. It seems to be geared more towards kids, but I enjoyed seeing the old cars and trains anyway.Really liked the few trains that they had built up a little entrance so you could go inside of them. The caboose was a really neat example of that.Ticket price is a little high for what it is, but then it can't be cheap to run such a museum.

Russ D (Rusty) — Google review

Nice museum with various steam & diesel locomotives, and rolling stock. 611 steam locomotive was there when I visited last Sunday. It has been restored and is often out on excursion trips. Luck to get to see it - up close too.It was obvious that the museum could use a stronger endowment/benefactor but seem to do well with whatever they have.Railroads are not only focus of the museum. Have a nice automobile collection and several static educational exhibits. They also have an O-gauge model railroad children (and old men like me) would enjoy. It's worth a visit and a great place to take grandkids. Good for rail enthusiasts as well, whether young or old.

Dale Gaff — Google review

The entry fee for 1 adult is $12.66, and you can add a donation. There's So Much to See! Trains, Planes, Cars! In addition, learn about the history of each mode of transportation, and important figures in each one. Very friendly and helpful people assisted us.

Marilee Housden — Google review

Toddler’s dream! Kids wonderland. Stroller accessible (except for second level but don’t think much is up there). Family restroom with changing table (bathroom needs to be cleaned though). Awesome to spend hours indoors here on a freezing winter day. Cars, trains, buses, planes, and more! Outside you can even watch real trains go by. Gift shop is fun. Highly recommend!

Savannah Frasier — Google review

So much fun. My 6 yr old grandson loved everything. Price is not bad. You can climb in a few things.

Tana White — Google review

Great place to learn and marvel about trains, cars, and planes. The folks there are so kind and knowledgeable. The gift shop is cute and provides a sense of nostalgia...with the wooden train sets and water ring toss games. We will definitely be back!

Seriah Brown — Google review

I've been to this museum with friends from out of town a few times, and I always enjoy it. There's loads of stuff to learn about, trains and planes to climb in, and of course the train yard outside is lots of fun. If you're at all interested in planes, trains, and automobiles, this is the spot!

Maggie Riley — Google review

Such a cool place. They have a little bit of everything here. Some of the old cars they have I never knew they existed. So worth the time and money to go here.

Howard Hottinger — Google review

Free parking right out front. Entry was $12.We spent about 2-3 hours here. The exhibits are a little tired in places (Some must be 15 years old!) But very interesting nonetheless.Definite highlights are railyard and the model trains!

Tom Fenton — Google review

What an excellent museum! It’s professionally set up with trains, cars, planes, buses, fire trucks, and memorabilia. We really enjoyed our time here. The huge 611 steam engine was my favorite. Well worth the entrance fee.

Tom Browning — Google review

Third visit here in the last ten years, this visit was on par with my first. Plenty of things to see between the cars on display inside and the trains on display out in the yard. Really enjoyed the circus train displays on the upper level.

Brady Harper — Google review

We like this place! It's easy to do and fun for all ages. We even joined last year but refuse to join this year because at this museum they make you pay for special events, like their trick or treating etc. So we will visit when guests come. They are constantly adding things, and the history they have collected is very impressive. It was great that the 611 was back, but we unfortunately missed it by a day! It is doing trips elsewhere. All in all, I would recommend visiting this museum, but the membership is NOT worth it. And some displayed were closed when we went. However, I think they may have just been painting. My company loved it!

Stacy DeBenedictis — Google review

Informative and beautiful museum! Lots of rich history and cool cars and trains! It is about $15 per person, but they offer student and military discounts! Go Hokies!

Litzy A — Google review

It was a very nice place to go we enjoyed all of the exhibits the automotive collection was great. I really liked the 1934 dodge brothers school bus It was very interesting. They have a lot of model trains. The restored locomotives were very nice. They even have an airplane exhibit.

Andy Nolan — Google review

This is a nice museum however it is overpriced for what you get. At the St. Louis transport museum you can climb in the locomotives. Not here. If it were more hands on would be a five star as they have some awesome stuff. UPDATE Also this has now gone down to a 2 star review. An employee threw something at my drone while I was simply trying to document some of the work going on the 611. I live right behind the museum and had clear line of sight with my drone and was fully following the FAA rules. It is also a federal crime to attempt to destroy or hurt an aircraft which a drone is. If I was in charge of the 611, I would be proud to have people try to photograph and video tape it. Not try to destroy their camera.

elevaTOURS (dieselducy) — Google review

Cultural landmark

Sights & Landmarks

The Mill Mountain Star is a prominent and iconic landmark overlooking the city of Roanoke, Virginia. This neon-lit star stands at an impressive 100 feet and is a regional cultural symbol that attracts many visitors to the area. Perched on top of Mill Mountain, this location offers magnificent views of the city and surrounding natural landscape. It provides an excellent opportunity for visitors to enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, walking or simply taking in the beautiful scenery.

The view here is incredible! It is a great place to get a quick bit of exercise (especially if you’re like me, and enjoy shorter hikes)! Thankfully the area is kept clean of trash and green with vibrant, beautiful nature aspects! I highly recommend a trip here if you’re visiting the area or simply have never been before. Whether it’s simply for the walk, photogenic properties, or to enjoy the surroundings this is a must-see location for residents and visitors alike!

Ky Miller — Google review

The star is one of the best and oldest attractions in the area, drawing visitors who are locals as well as tourists/visitors to our city. You can't beat the view of the valley, and the overlooks are perfect for capturing those gorgeous views. The playground has picnic tables next to it for a perfect spot to enjoy lunch while the kids have their own little adventures climbing, sliding, and making their way through the tunnel. The star and overlooks are free, as well as parking, making it an excellent choice for a weekend afternoon family outing or picnic.

Krystal Nichole — Google review

I've driven by the Star on many drives through Roanoke...and finally made a trip with a friend recently; worth it! I would like to see it after dark, but seein the urban sprawl of the city, mixed with the mountain views was spectacular during the day. There is no cost to drive up to the overlook, and not much of a walk to the monument. Park area is clean and well maintained, with historical and informational signage.Definitely a great place to spend the day...there are other attractions nearby, including but not limited to the zoo, the discovery center, and hiking trails.

C4Explore — Google review

The Mill Mountain Star is a historical landmark in Roanoke. The view of the valley is spectacular. It has two overlooks, and walking trails. It's also in the same vicinity of the zoo (didn't visit due to time constraints), but we did take a little walk along one of the paved trails. I'd say that it's a 'must visit' spot if you are visiting the Roanoke area. (and it's free!)

ron skyberg — Google review

If you are an outdoor person and/or have a dog, this is a great place to go. The view is outstanding and the air feels crisp and clean. There are trails and paths to walk. Some of the trails are difficult (rocks and grade), but the paths are paved and easy to walk. From the parking lot to the star is an easy path. Worth the short drive up there.

JP Aus — Google review

Panoramic views of the Roanoke Valley from several overlooks. Also a zoo, small park and Discovery Center - all in the shadow of the world's largest man-made star. Only the zoo has an admission fee.

G.E. Stone — Google review

We've been walking here in the evenings for a little exercise. Nice paved paths by star and zoo. Interesting trails through woods, rocky in places but well worn paths.

L Finch — Google review

Our family enjoyed the view! The mountain biking was fun. When I walked our dog on the trail below the Star, we were greeted with so much broken glass. I thought it would be okay once I got into the forest area, but there was broken glass along the entire trail. I had to carry out dog. Bummer!

Monica Faucette — Google review

The view from Mill Mountain was great even though the weather was not so great! Even with limited visibility and rain on our heels we were still able take in a pretty nice view from the vantage point at the base of the star. From what I could see the trails were nice(at the beginning at least)wish the weather was nicer so we could have meandered about for awhile. The restrooms…well…for guys I hope you don’t have IBS or another sensitive tummy issue. Ladies I would just hold it seriously! It’s not worth it!

Derik Austin Matthews — Google review

Magnificent place! It's a beautiful area to stop and relax and take in the breath taking view of Roanoke and the Blue Ridge Mountains. I HIGHLY recommend a stop here!

Kim W. — Google review

What a beautiful stop this was. It's located on the Blue Ridge Mountain Road. The breath taking view looked over Roanoke. I bet it's beautiful at night! I hear the star lights up, too. They have a trail you can hike with your four-legged friends. They even offer a little dispenser of doggie poop bags. The dogwood trees were in bloom. The surrounding foliage is lush and green.Bathrooms are also provided. The main road takes you for a scenic drive.

Cheryl Clark — Google review

This landmark is impressive and the views are amazing. At night it is very grand to see the star fully illuminated. Access is restricted after 11pm.There is a pavilion to picnic under as well as a playground for children in the park. A beautiful garden is well maintained and a free discovery center holds information about the local geography and animals. There is also a small zoo on Mill Mountain which can be visited for a fee. There is a miniature train you can purchase tickets to ride on and see the perimeter of the zoo. With the train tickets and entry for 4 adults and 2 children the cost was less than $100. The zoo closes prior to the park closing, so check hours ahead of time.

Mike Wilhelmsen — Google review

Beautiful, beautiful view of the city and just looking at all the mountains. Must visit if you're in Roanoke! Came to visit a friend, and she took me to see!! So grateful for the memorable opportunity she gave me as well as thinking of taking me! Thanks Olivia!!! :)

Nate Danzinger — Google review

Great thing to see up close after seeing it from below. The Roanoke Star, also known as the Mill Mountain Star, is the world's largest freestanding illuminated man-made star. It is just a short walk to the front side of the star. There is a nice platform that overlooks Roanoke for great viewing of the city below, but also with enough room to turn around and get a picture of the giant star. It was cold and starting to get dark, there were only 2-3 cars at any point. There looked to be nice restrooms but didn't go check them out.

Lindsay Varga — Google review

A marvelous view! A wonderful spot to go anytime of the day but I recommend going at night. I took my daughter and we had an absolutely amazing time! Very easy to get to. Not a far walk at all to the lookout. The lookout itself is outstanding! The star is truly a marvel. I highly recommend this for a family outing. I will be back here again and again!

Rate N'Review — Google review

Was on a work trip and went there when it was dark, the star light was light as well, we all had a flocking good time and walked away happier than when we had arrived. Besides my teams fowl language, it was kid appropriate.

Dusty Kirk — Google review

This will always be one of my favorite places in the valley! We can see it from a window in our house which is a really sweet bonus! The views are breathtaking and it's always clean no matter how many guests are on the platform. A favorite for us is to visit in December and see all the pockets of lights!

Cara Taylor — Google review

The Mill Star is usually all white except for patriotic holidays. GPS brings you to the bottom of the site. You need to keep driving until you see the entrance to the park. The view of the city from the lookout is amazing.

Deborah Esposito — Google review

I visited the Mill Mountain Star on an early morning will in town for a sporting event. Walked around the trails and walking paths. Then stopped at the star and the overlook of the city. Great view. Very easy to get to from the parking area as well.

Architectural salvage store

Shopping

Black Dog Salvage is a well-known and popular warehouse in Roanoke, Virginia that offers an array of restored furniture and antiques. This eclectic store is featured on the DIY Network's Salvage Dawgs show. Visitors can spend hours browsing through their constantly changing inventory, which includes unique items for home renovation or decoration. Additionally, guests can explore the remote warehouse where surprises await at every turn.

My mom and I stopped in to check out the store and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The inventory was really interesting and every staff member was warm and welcoming. We even met Mike and had a great little chat, he’s a very sweet guy and even posed for a photo with my mom. 10/10 would absolutely recommend!

Rob Mader — Google review

Pretty exciting visit today at this very famous Black Dog Salvage, that hit the world stage with the TV show couple of years ago. There's a part of the store with only vintage and salvage stuff (toys, furniture, light fixtures, kitchen accessories, etc.) as well as a part with refurbished and finished goods. They have here also the loft located on the 2nd floor with some high price paintings. 🖼It's definitely an interesting spot to visit and look around for all these goods stored here, which many of them are very unique and have priceless value. However to afford them is a different thing. 😅

Krzysiek Olecha — Google review

Just received my order and like to say thanks for Super fast shipping. I love watching your show, everyone works together so great! Tay is my favorite and has so much potential and does great work. I'm hoping your show comes back on but stream reruns all the time. Keep up the great work. James Lusk

So many wonderful things are at Black Dog Salvage. The staff were knowledgeable and were great help to me as I had questions. Several staff members assisted me in different areas of the building. I was surprised at the amount of art in the Loft. I purchased a few things and will return to see what I can find next time. I was impressed with the variety of items that were available. I also found many items that I will attempt to replicate at home.

Hannah Thompson-Welch — Google review

I could wander around this place all day. Really cool vintage stuff and a few reproductions. If you need it they have it

Robert Lawrence — Google review

If you are in the area. STOP BY! Great place to spend an hour (or 4) browsing all of their cool items that change every day. Ask to go to their remote warehouse as well. Every turn is a surprise. If you are renovation a home, looking for something special for your home, this is THE place to find it. Thank you Folks for a great shop

Keith D — Google review

Very neat place with all kinds of salvaged items that perks a person's imagination of what all could be done each item. If you stop at the right day/time you could get to enjoy some live music and a beer or two. Definitely worth a stop even if you are not crafty and just looking for something to do.

Eric Schnell — Google review

A very cool place to visit. If it's old they got it. 4 stars because prices are high...especially some of the consignment items.

Mark Matthews — Google review

Great place for reclaimed, restored and repurposed items. I went in to get a mortise lock for our 100+ year old door and they had several to choose from.

Russell Lescault — Google review

I recently stopped here on a road trip from Boston to Florida. I was a little surprised at the sheer size and inventory in the building - they literally have a little bit of everything. I only had about an hour to spend here and it was not nearly enough as I could have spent at least half a day looking around - truly enjoyed my experience here. The employees are absolutely awesome - super friendly and helpful. Other reviewers have stated that the prices are too high but this is a legitimate salvage business that incurs significant costs to harvest inventory so the prices reflect the true market value of the items they sell. This is not a flea market and if you come here looking for flea market prices, then you should pass. However, if you are looking for very specific or unique items and willing to pay fair market value for the item, then this is the place for you. Lastly, the store is absolutely immaculate for a salvage business, It is extremely well organized and very clean. One would expect a lot of dust and dirt because it is salvage but it is not - pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and organization of the store. If you visit, I recommend at least 3 to 4 hours if you are a slow browser and at least 1.5 to 2 hours if you are looking for something specific. This place is LOADED with inventory so there's a ton to look at and I will be returning on my next road trip.

Dave Berube — Google review

What a fun adventure! There is something for everyone and everything 💗. Black Dog Salvage has grown in the past two years and is full of wonderful artisan items as well as unusual salvage finds. The food trucks are good too... I highly recommend a visit. Cards, jewelry, candles, garden items, hanging art, etc. Have fun, get inspired, and support local businesses - make a trip to Black Dog Salvage ⭐

Addison Martin — Google review

We were extremely excited about visiting Black Dog Salvage after watching the TV show. What we forgot to account for was that with a TV show comes TV show prices. They had a lot of availability from doors, to iron works, bathroom fixtures, light fixtures, stain glass windows, any kind of wood you would want, and furnishings. However the price tag was so large that despite the items being unique (can find some items at other shops for much cheaper) they became impractical to purchased when you could find a new item for hundreds of dollars less, looking and functioning much better. You just can’t beat the amount of stuff BDS has. Which again should be cause for lower pricing. They do have a section for vendors to sell their products and the selection varies from vendor to vendor as well as the price. It is a beautiful shop and the employees are friendly. Just to walk around and explore is fun enough.

S Gomez — Google review

Went with the family and we all found something we loved! Awesome place to get things or to get ideas. The staff was awesome. We probably spent 3 hours looking around, and I know we didn’t see everything. Definitely recommend!

Nora Fleenor — Google review

I really enjoyed my visit here for the first time. It must be a dream location for people who love restoration of any kind. There's so much going on here. You could visit over a hundred times and you'll still notice something you haven't seen before. I highly recommend this place for those in search of new projects. They also have Black Dog Salvage merchandise such as jars of apple butter, pickles, t shirts, etc.Parking is located on the side of the building. Entrances are also on the side and front of the building.
