Calendar of events: Juneteenth and Father's Day events (2024)

Celebrate Juneteenth in Victoria with events during the weekend and following week.

The Juneteenth Freedom Day Under the Tent & Founders' Day Celebration is set for Saturday and will offer music, food and games.

The Juneteenth Praise Concert is scheduled for Wednesday in downtown Victoria.

Take your dad to the ballgame on Sunday with the Dad's Day with The Victoria Generals event.

SATURDAY

Children's Discovery Museum Donuts with Dad — 10 a.m., Children's Discovery Museum of the Golden Crescent, 1205 Sam Houston Drive, Victoria. Happy Father's Day. Come enjoy donuts with Dad and a day of play in the museum.

Hands-on History-Connect with Nature — 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Museum of the Coastal Bend, 2200 E. Red River St., Victoria. Join us for come-and-go nature activities. Learn how to create crafts using natural resources available in the Texas landscape.

Juneteenth Freedom Day Under the Tent & Founders' Day Celebration — 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 2311 1/2 Pleasant Green Drive, Victoria. Live Music from Kool & Together and saxophonist Alonzo Henderson. Food trucks and vendors, DJ A-Wall, bingo and domino tournament, prize raffles as well as kid's play area.

Chess Club — Noon-2 p.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Join us in the Bronte Room for casual games of chess for all levels of players.

Coast Writers — 1-3 p.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Coast Writers is a group of adults young and old, for all levels of writers.

Southern Drive Band — 7-10 p.m., J Welch Farms, 111 Ripple Road, Victoria County. J Welch Farms Winery, Corn Maze, Retail Store. Live music every weekend. Brunch on Sundays!

Emo Night — 8 p.m.-1 a.m., Dodge City Saloon, 205 N. Star Drive, Victoria. Join in the fun with DJ Swerve. Must be 21 an older. Only $5 cover. Armadillo Café open until 11 p.m.

SUNDAY

Dad's Day with The Victoria Generals — 6 p.m., Riverside Stadium, 405 Memorial Drive, Victoria. Gates open at 6 p.m., and kids can play catch with dad on the field starting at 6:30 p.m., prior to the game. Be sure to get there early. The first 500 fans get a free mini-cowbell.

TUESDAY

Crafternoon: Dinosaur Sun Catchers — 1:30-2:30 p.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Join us as we craft dinosaur sun catchers that will illuminate with all the colors of the rainbow.

VPL Photo Studio — 6-7 p.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Recreate those awkward family photos at the library with our VPL Photo Studio.

Safe Sitter Classes — 9 a.m.-noon, Citizens Medical Center, 2701 Hospital Drive, Victoria. Safe Sitter is a program that prepares teens in grades six-eight with the life and safety skills they need to be safe while home alone, watching younger siblings or babysitting.

Family Story Time — 10 -11 a.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Newborn to school age. This is a great way to get the whole family to join in on the fun of reading.

Teen Tech: Escape Room — 5-7 p.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Enjoy a jungle-themed box presented by Pro Escape Room. There will also be board games.

WEDNESDAY

Safe Sitter Classes — 9 a.m.-noon, Citizens Medical Center, 2701 Hospital Drive, Victoria. Safe Sitter is a program that prepares teens in grades six-eight with the life and safety skills they need to be safe while home alone, watching younger siblings or babysitting.

KC Bingo — 5-10 p.m., 3610 N. Ben Jordan St., Victoria. Dauber tab table starts selling dauber tabs at 5:00 p.m. Bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. Entry packs are $12. No outside food or drink allowed.

Juneteenth Praise Concert — 6-8 p.m., DeLeon Plaza, downtown Victoria. This is a free event so come relax and listen to some great music. Bring your family, neighbors, chairs, blankets, snacks and drinks, but please no alcohol.

THURSDAY

Frost Sweet Treats — 2-4 p.m., Frost Bank, 7602 N. Navarro St., Victoria. We'll be serving free treats from Ortega's Rainbo Sno to everyone who stops by.

Mid-Coast: Summer Safety — 3:30-4:30 p.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Discussions include making healthy choices by avoiding drugs and alcohol, staying safe in peer situations, wearing sunscreen and drinking water.

Yarn Craft Club — 4:30-5:30 p.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Join us for fun stitching projects or work on your project with others who enjoy making crafts with yarn. This event is open to ages 10 and up.

VC Night at the Ballpark — 5:30-9:30 p.m., Riverside Stadium, 405 Memorial Drive, Victoria. The event will begin with a tailgate party featuring free hot dogs, drinks, giveaways, a balloon artist and music. The game will start at 7:05 p.m.

Afterhours: Mini Golf in the Library — 7-9 p.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Enjoy a free round of indoor mini-golf in the library stacks.

FRIDAY

Fun Fridays: Chair Yoga — 10-11 a.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that helps improve stability, flexibility and reduce stress. Led by Citizen's Health Plex instructor Sharon Elder.

Mini Banjos Craft at The Victoria Mall — 10 a.m.-noon, 7800 N. Navarro St., Victoria. You'll be all set to kick off your own band.

Family Story Book Yoga — 3:30-4:15 p.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Bring your child for creative and thoughtful movement and mindfulness with a rainforest twist.

ONGOING

Friday Movie Mania —2-4 p.m., Cuero Municipal Library, 207 E. Main St., Cuero. Beat the summer heat and create lasting memories with Friday Movie Mania at Cuero Municipal Library. Movies every Friday in June and July except Fourth of July weekend. Movies in order are “Dune: Part Two,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Raya and the Last Dragon,” “Wonka,” “Barbie,” “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” and “Wish.”

Timeline: 200 Years: Celebrating Victoria’s Bicentennial — Noon-5 p.m. Wednesdays to Sundays, through June 9, Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art, 1201 N. Moody St., Victoria. The exhibition examines the last 200 years from our connections to the land and nature, to the personal experience of families and ancestors. The works in this exhibition also include the longer history of immigrants and travelers who found their way to Victoria through trial, opportunity and serendipity. The DeLeon carriage is on display.

Victoria Farmers’ Market — 9 a.m.-noon. Wednesdays and Saturdays, Dr. Pattie Dodson Public Health Center, 2805 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Local farmers sell seasonal produce, farm fresh meats and eggs, baked goods, local honey, homemade pickles and jellies and more. For more information, call 361-218-9246.

361 Pop-Up Shops — 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, 2504 N. Laurent St., Victoria. Shop with a variety of vendors. Something for everyone in the family. Friendly vendors, air-conditioned shopping. It’s like shopping in a mini-mall.
