Top effort from Jay. A long time since he has had a win like that.

That's a great result from Jay! Week 26 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - men's qualifying (7)

I remember when Halys was a talented junior and considered the next Big Thing in French tennis, but it never really happened for him. (He's 27 now. Where does the time go?) So I feel Jay has a decent chance in the next round.

Holy moly
I think lambs to the slaughter is putting it mildly, but at least Jay came through against a well seasoned pro.
Hopefully George can also get a results although his game/body language has never really got me excited.

But all our players were well under-ranked.
And all were outsiders at the bookies (apart from George)
So you've got to 'expect' them all to lose
And simply take pleasure in the odd win here or there

The only one, to me, which was 100% one-sided was Jack PJ's match (and where the odds were truly mad - I put a huge bet (for me) on Lucas, it made no sense at all)

But all the others were in with a shout - they didn't look as though they didn't belong on the court

Of course it was lovely for Jay to win - he had a big family/friend contingent rooting for him (and Colin Beecher watching on). And his speech when he said he was close to quitting tennis last year or whenever was quite telling.

Very pleased for him

PS The Fonseca match was great - the guy's only 17 still, it went to a 10-point MTB in the third - he was 5-9 down, came back, and just lost at the finish - tons of Brazilian fans were disappointed but still smiling Week 26 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - men's qualifying (8)

George claimed an early break, survived a marathon 8th game, including 3 breakpoints before serving out to love to win the first set 6-4

George had a breakpoint in game 9 to serve for the match, but couldn't take it and Travaglia broke next game to take the second set 6-4

George just broken. Controversial as umpire says Travaglia hit the net at to break to 0.

CD, I am with you on this one. The results followed the rankings in the main and was as expected. Pretty similar could happen tomorrow. Our youngsters have had precious little grass court practice at this level and havent really had the prep at the right level for this me thinks. Anyway, lets just wait and see if we could get one win in the womens qualies tomorrow. That would be an achievement.

I might be proved well wrong but I'm more optimistic for tomorrow - firstly because youngsters' rankings are less reliable than the players aged 23 or whatever and secondly, they've definitely drawn some rather dodgy grass court players

FIngers crossed Week 26 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - men's qualifying (11)

But, yes, I don;t think you can be really disappointed when your players are well outranked and then lose

Yea I agree. Im looking forward to tomorrow but will have to be realistic about rankings. Today was always going to be tough and a good number of qualifiers have grass experience as opposed to the challengers where some didnt have any. Hopefully George can pull through and well have 2 through, but the expectation is that the higher ranked player will prevail. The media will jump on it Im sure, but it shouldnt be unexpected.
